Treaty of Munich
Hitler, Daladier, Mussolini, and Chamberlain met in Munich. They concurred that Hitler should have Sudetanland in Czechoslovakia. The Czechs were not present, however, and they realized they would have to give Sudetanland to Germany. -
German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact
Hitler and Stalin signed the Nonagression Pact in late August of 1939. It included secret plans for a division of Poland. This assured that Hitler would not face war from two fronts, and that he had backup and assistance from the Soviets. -
Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg was a war launched by Hitler, which is also known as the lightning war. It was against Holland and Belgium. Both countries were occupied. -
Dunkirk
The British commander in chief had to retreat to the coast of Dunkirk, because it was the only port still available. The troops waited to be taken off the beaches. More than 338,000 were rescue from the Dunkirk beaches. -
Battle of Britain
Hitler sent bombers to attack British ports in July and August. On September 7th, London was heavily bombed. Hitler wanted to upset the morale of the British people. Hitler also had a series of bombing raids at night on London and other important cities. The Battle of Britain was won. -
Hitler attacks Russia- Operation Barbarossa
3 million soldiers and 3,500 tanks were sent to Russia by Hitler. The Russians were very surprised, however, because they had a treaty with Germany. Russia immediately launched a battle that would result in 20 million casualties. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. About 360 aircrafts with bombers were launched and attacked all eight battleships at the harbor. More than 2,330 troops were killed and there were more than 1,140 injuries. -
Battle of Midway
The US won the Battle of Midway, which occured in June of 1942. It was a turning point in the war. The US's defeat ended a streak of Japanese victories. -
Italy Surrenders
Benito Mussolini was taken out of office and the new government of Italy surrendered. They joined the Allies. The Germans then took control of Italy's military and freed Mussolini. -
D-Day
The allies attacked German forces in Normandy, France. An invasion army was carried to the beaches of Normandy. Germans hurried troops to Normandy but they were not able to stop the allies.
