Battle of the Atlantic
In the Atlantic, Germany did not want goods imported to Britain because that might cause Britain to lose the war. Germany and Italy U-boats torpedoed Great Britain, United States, and France cargo ships. The allies were victorious because they stopped the wolf packs by sonar. They could see where the ships were coming. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan was angered when United States traded with Great Britain and France, but would not trade with Japan. Tojo Hideki wanted resources from Asia when United States made sure he would not get involved with trade going on in the Pacific again. -
Battle of Midway
After the Pearl of Harbor, Japan decided to attack on United States through air craft. United States won once they caught onto the plan and it backfired on them. United States used the form of island hopping starting with the Battle of Midway. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Adolp Hitler did not want Russia to have oil in order to fight a war so they attacked Stalingrad, Russia. Germany captured oil fields and Hitler ran out of weapons. Germany lost because they were outnumbered by so many troops by the Soviet Union. -
Operation Torch
Germany and Italy went to North Africa, a french colony, for the oil suppy. Germany occupied France and destroyed their country for the oil. United States and Great Britain had to push Germany troops back up North out of France and North Africa. They used tanks against Germany and Italy having to go through Italy before getting to Germany. The allies won this war and France had their colony and government put back together. -
D-Day
The allied forces landed in Normandy, France. Germans made a counterattack on them to take over France. United States, France, and Great Britain travelled to Normandy on higgins boats to attack Germany. Many of the allied troops drowned when jumping off the boat when it could not go further. Beach obstacles kept the boat from coming closer to German troops. Dwight Eisenhower. Americans commander ordered Americans to surround them with bombing and airplanes behind the pillboxes Germans were in. -
Battle of Leyte Gulf
During the Battle of Leyte Gulf, kamikaze pilots were first used. This was the largest naval battle in the world. United States had to get through Southeast Asia in order to aim at the Japanese troops occuping their land. Japan wanted the oil supplies from Southeast Asia because they had nothing without imports. Allied victories won the battle in the gulf. -
Battle of the Bulge
Germany suprises the allies in Hitler's favor by meeting them in the Ardennes Mountains starting a counteroffensive. Snow storms made it hard to fight by failure of weapons and techniques. Once Germans ran out of ammunition and their needs for war, their plan failed which resulted in an allied victory. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
Japan invaded Iwo Jima and United States wanted to help them get out. The japanese army were on the beaches and this ended up one of the bloodiest fights of the world. Plenty of Americans died in this battle on another island, yet America was victorious. -
Battle of Okinawa
As another result in island hopping, The Battle of Okinawa was an amphibious war in the Ryukyu Islands which was in the Pacific. Air forces were also involved in this war. United States recieved help from their allies which helped them win this war. For this war, United States got close enough to bomb Japan. -
Atomic Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
United States wanted Japan to surrender from war because if they didn't United States would be in trouble. United States dropped letters out notifying them that they were going to be bombed. Japan continued to fight so United States dropped bombs. Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima and three days later, Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan surrendered once plenty of civilians died because of this.
