Germany invades Poland, initiating World War II in Europe.
The day before the war, Nazi operatives had posed as Polish military officers to stage an attack.They did this on the radio station in the Silesian city of Gleiwitz. Germany used the event as the pretext for its invasion of Poland. This which then caused Germany to invade Poland, initiating World War II in Europe. Which then lead Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany. -

Germany invades
Germany invades Denmark, Norway, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg. All happens within weeks. Denmark surrenders on the day of the attack; Norway holds out until June 9. Germany attacks western Europe France and the neutral Low Countries. The Netherlands surrenders on May 14; and Belgium surrenders on May 28. -
Tripartite Pact
Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact. With this Tripartite Germany, Italy, Hungary, and Bulgaria invade and dismember Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia ends up surrendering on April 17. Germany and Bulgaria invade Greece in support of the Italians. Resistance in Greece ceases in early June 1941. -
Eastern Front
Germany invades the USSR, opening what becomes known as the Eastern Front. Nazi Germany and its Axis partners invade the Soviet Union. Finland, seeking redress for the territorial losses in the armistice concluding the Winter War, joins the Axis just before the invasion. The Germans quickly overrun the Baltic States and joined by the Finns, lay siege to Leningrad by September. In the center, the Germans capture Smolensk in early August and drive on Moscow by October. -
US Enters War
The Imperial Japanese Navy attacks the US Pacific Fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They attacked Pearl Harbor with a bomb. Which causes the US to enter the war, opening the Pacific Theatre. The United States then declareed war on Japan. Japanese troops land in the Philippines, French Indochina, and British Singapore. By April 1942, the Philippines, Indochina, and Singapore they were under Japanese occupation. -
Battle of Midway
The US Navy sinks four Japanese aircraft carriers in the fight that proves to be the turning point in the Pacific war. The US because the US, and destroyed the Japanese Imperial Navy. This gave the USA complete control of the Pacific Ocean. This war lasted three days. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Germany's entire Sixth Army is lost, and the war begins turning in favor of the Allies. After Germany's failure to take Stalingrad, their Eastern front army was practically destroyed and they were forced to flee the Soviet Union. The Russians on the offensive, which directly aided in the destruction and conquering of Germany by the Allied Forces. Germany was now essentially surrounded with the Americans and British in the West, and the Russians in the East. -
D-Day
D-Day was a turning point in the war. British and US troops land on the Normandy beaches of France, opening a Second Front against the Germans. The purpose of the invasion was to establish a major beach head on the coast of Occupied France from which a campaign against German forces in Western Europe that could be initiated. This campaign was intended to liberate German occupied countries in Western Europe and then to invade Germany itself if necessary. Which made the US viwed diffrently. -
Hitler Kill Himself
Hitler commits suicide. He knew he had lost and he didn't want to hide or run. He did not want Stalin to capture him and parade him around as a war prize. So Hitler killed himself thinking that was a better idea and had his body cremated so not even that could be paraded also Soviet forces. He believed that if he did get caught he would have a slow, painful and humiliating death, so he killed himself. He didn't want to be taken prisoner. -
Nagasaki
USA develops the atomic bomb, and successfully uses it to force the surrender of Japan. It exploded about 1,625 ft above the ground and is believed to have completely destroyed the city. Which is situated on the western side of the Japanese island of Kyushu. This bomb was extremly succesful. Which finnaly concluded the war.
