    after the archduke, Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Principe ,rising tensions between Serbia and Austria. this action then starts off the war as Austria wanted to get back at Serbia while Britain and Germany were fighting.

    Germany invades Belgium on August 4th in an effort to brute force itself towards France.In early August german forces invade belgium and luxembourg in an effort to get to france and use belgium for cover as it was a neutral country and belgium had recently revoked a deal it had with germany starting off the war

    Germans begin unrestricted Submarine warfare
    Germany begins firing upon all ships coming to them whether they are army or merchant ships only giving one warning then firing freely sinking both types of ships to secure their lands by cutting of enemies sources of help and supplies.

    Germany begins firing for the first time large amounts of gases at allies almost defeating the french line of defense but the Germans later failed but this was only one of the first attacks Germany had attempted in the war using gases as weapons.

    The Lusitania sinks
    The Lusitania was sunk by German U-boats carrying 1,198 people and 128 of them were Americans. The reason the boat was sunk was because it was carrying supplies for the war across seas aiding the European powers unknown to the passengers.

    The British send america the telegram that contained a message from Germany to mexico letting them know that if they decided to fight to join Germany’s side and they would give mexico much of the american southwestern territory including Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico but ultimately mexico had no interest in going to war.

    The first tanks are used in battle
    The British were the first to use military tanks in battle but they weren’t as useful as the British had hoped they would be but they did get through barbed wire and clearing paths for infantry. the tanks could withstand the guns of Germany but not the gases and explosives that were planted in the paths.

    With president Wilson convincing people of america to join in eventually the united states decide to join in the war on the side of France and Britain against Germany. one of the main reasons for the U.S. to join was because Germany decided to continue using unrestricted submarine warfare which effected the exports and imports of america

    Lloyd's job while at the sea was to make sure the deck and surface of the deck was always clean and mop of after the ship had docked in the harbor. he also was in regular arms training and held the rank of seaman 2nd class

    Lloyd Brown joins the Navy
    Born on October 2, 1901 in Missouri he lied about his age stating he was born in 1899 to enlist himself into the navy when he was actually 16.

    He served in 1918 to early 1919 His ship never fully got to the other side of the ocean because his ship was one that guarded supply ships till they got to a checkpoint then returned to shore his boat was called the new Hampshire which was 2,633 tons in weight

    Germany and Russia sign a peace treaty (Treaty of Brest-Litovsk) and Germany gets Ukraine and Poland causing peace between the two on the eastern front. Germany then puts soldiers to fight on the western front against Britain, France, and the united states

    The signing of the armistice that created a mutual peace on November 11th at 11 am between the allies and Germany ending the fighting that had carried on through 4 years.Armistice Day is still commemorated on the 11th of November by having moments of silence for the soldiers and people that were lost in the war.

    Lloyd after the war
    At the end of the war he was on the streets of a city when he was on leave from the ship when crowds started cheering and shaking his hands and giving out flowers. He left military in October of 1919 and went back to work on his dad’s business then went back into the navy in 1921 and stayed for 4 years
