Battle of Tannenberg
The battle lasted from August 26 - 30, 1914. Germany had a victory and Germany and Russia had a lot more battles to come. Germany had 100,000 prisoners of war from Russia. -
First Battle of Marne
This battle lasted from September 5 - 12, 1914. The allies had a victory and it was based on the Schlieffen Plan. The allies had one of the most important victories because they forced the Germans to advance to the Marnes. -
Gallipoli Campaign
This lasted from April 25, 1915 to January 9, 1916. This was called a campaign but it was actually a battle. Each side had about 250,000 casualties or losses. -
Battle of Verdun
The Battle of Verdun lasted from February 21, 1916 until December 18. 1916. It was actually one of the longest battles of World War I. The French won the battle and 305,000 soldiers died. -
Battle of Gallipoli
This battle lasted from April 25, 1915 to January 9, 1916. The Ottomans had the victory against British and France. Their loss of the battle actually effected Australia and New Zealand. -
Battle of Jutland
The Battle of Jutland was one of the shortest battles in World War I. The battle was so short that no one had a victory. It was the only major naval battle in World War I. -
Battle of Somme
This was lasted from July 1 to November 18, 1916. The allies had a victory and one of the biggest battles from WWI. There were 600,000 casualties including 50,000 British. -
Battle of Arras
This battle lasted from April 9 to May 16, 1917. 160,000 British soldiers died and 125,000 soldiers from Germany died. The British won this battle. -
Battle of Passchendaele
This is the third battle of the Ypres and lasted from July 31 - November 10, 1917. It was fought by the World War I allies and the German Empire. The Germans had victory in this battle. -
Battle of Caporetto
The battle lasted from October 24, 1917 to November 12, 1917. The central powers had a victory and was the 12th battle of the Isonzo. A young German officer captured 1,500 people with the help of five men.
