    The Holocaust
    The Holocaust occurred on January 30, 1933 and lasted until May 8, 1945. The Holocaust was the persecution of the Jews under the Nazi empire. This tragic event occurred because Adolf Hitler wanted to remove the Jews as he thought they were sub-human. He blamed the Jews for every known reason he could possibly think of. He believed that the Jews betrayed Germany. In 1933, Hitler began to plan these attacks. As a result, there was 11 million people who died from the Holocaust. 6 million were Jews.
  • German Blitzkrieg

    German Blitzkrieg
    The term Blitzkrieg was German for "lightening war". Everything had to be done hard and fast. This execution resulted in short military campaigns. Blitzkrieg attacked Denmark and Norway on April of 1940. They attacked Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France in May of 1940. Yugoslavia and Britain were then attacked in April of 1941. Germany did not defeat Great Britain which German forces invaded the Soviet Union just two months after.

    Germany resulted in not being able to defeat the Soviet Union. The outcome of this "lightening war" led Germany to a long war.

    The Soviet Union in World War II signed a nonaggression pact with Nazi, Germany on August 23, 1939. Nazi Germany then invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. There was 134 divisions and 73 more divisions behind the front that were full force fighting. The USSR did not want to enter the war. UK or France did not want to enter either but were forced to. The Soviet Union had a secret agreement with the other two countries to not attack each other and put all of their attacks on Poland.

    Hitler ended up invading the USSR and had to enter this war that was occurring. In the end, the Nazis destroyed the industrial and domestic structure of the USSR.

    Germany's invasion of Poland
    Germany's invasion of Poland occurred on September 1, 1939 and ended October 6 on that same year. This invasion was also known as the September Campaign. There was German forces who invaded Poland from the north, south, and west the morning right after the Gleiwitz Incident. This event occurred because Britain and France kept on ignoring Germany's invasions. Adolf Hitler made a promise with Russia that Germany would split Poland in half and share it with Russia.

    The Fall of Paris occurred on May 10, 1940- June 25, 1940. The Fall of Paris was the German invasion of France and the Low Countries during World War II. German tanks rolled into Paris while two million Parisians had fled. This battle was started when French premier Paul Reynaud telegrammed president Franklin Roosevelt asking for a declaration of war. In result, it took France just about 6 weeks to defeat the German invaders. Paris was then abandoned and declared an open city.

    The Wannsee conference was a meeting of senior officials of Nazi, Germany. This occurred on January 20, 1942. The purpose of the conference was to inform administrative leaders of departments responsible for various policies relating to Jews. This meeting was chaired by Reinhard Heydrich. It was held to work out the "final solution". The "Final Solution" was a code name for the murder of all the Jews of Europe.

    The Bataan Death March was a march that occurred on April 9, 1942. This march was about 65 miles long that took place through the Philippines of American and British POW's. The prisoners were forced to walk this miles in six days. This march was constructed by Japanese soldiers. About 2,500–10,000 Filipino and 100–650 American prisoners of war died before they could reach their destination. As a result, there was about 21,600 dead Filipinos and American POW's.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The Battle of Stalingrad occurred on July 17, 1942- February 2, 1943. It was the successful Soviet defense of the city Stalingrad in the USSR during World War II. This battle was known as the turning point to war. There was 22 German divisions that were cut off at Stalingrad that they were forced to surrender on February 28, 1943. The United States shipped down about 4,100 planes and 138,00 vehicles to Russia. This was for their July offensive against Germany.

    This battle resulted in the destruction of the German 6th army. There was about 150,00 Germans that died in the battle.

    The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising occurred on April 19th, 1943- May 16th, 1943. It was the act of Jewish resilience that arose within the Warsaw Ghetto in Germany which occupied Poland during World War II. This war occurred because the Nazi's were killing the Jews and sending them out to the ghetto. These Jews were suffering through starvation, and thousands were killed each month. The Jews families were being killed. In result, this uprising impacted the Jews as a symbol for hope.

    D-Day occurred on June 6, 1944. On this day, the Allies invaded Western Europe. This was one of the largest attacks in known history. This was during World War II and marked the beginning of the campaign for victory in Europe. This invasion consisted of 1,200 fighting ships, 10,000 planes, 4,126 landing craft, and 804 transport ships along with other tanks. This invasion did not run on schedule. It had to be delayed for 24 hours due to a horrible storm. The elements landed into the beaches.

    In result, D-day opened up the second front on the mainland of Europe. This event also helped shorten the war that was happening.

    Soviet soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners in the final stages of war which started on January 27, 1945. This was the day these soldiers entered Auschwitz. When they entered, they found hundreds of suffering prisoners. There was 348,820 men's suits, 836,255 women's coats, and tens of thousands of pairs of shoes that was left behind from their personal belongings. In result, allied troops tried to provide for these surviving prisoners.

    The atomic bomb was dropped by the United States on the city, Hiroshima which is located in Japan. This occurred on August 6, 1945. On August 9, another bomb fell but this time was on Nagasaki. These bombs were dropped because they wanted Japan to surrender. The Japanese were not willing to surrender the colonies that they still has control over. After these bombs were dropped, the Japanese morale was broken and World War II finally ended.

    A month after the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, there was a typhoon that hit the city which killed another 2,000 people. In total there was about 129,000-246,000 people killed during this bomb drop.

    Auschwitz was one of the main concentration camps that was in The Holocaust. There was 1.1 million jews who died in this camp. This first Auschwitz was constructed in the first place to hold political prisoners. Then the second Auschwitz came to place where Jews were sent to in different areas to suffer and be killed. A majority of these Jews were killed by gas chambers along with starvation, forced labor, infectious diseases and medical experiences that were practiced.

    This camp was staffed by over 7,000 members. The effects of the Auschwitz camp killed many innocent Jews.

    Battle of the Bulge
    The Battle of the Bulge started on December 16, 1944 and ended on January 25, 1945. This battle was Hitler's last major offensive. It was a counterattack against the Allied lines. The Allies gained advantage from this battle because Germany game permission to the Allies to destroy part of the Germany Army. This battle was the end of war in Western Europe. This Battle was started because Hitler wanted to launch a counter offensive to thrust through the Allied Army.

    This was the bloodiest battle yet. In result, there was more than 100,000 people that were killed, wounded, captured or missing. The Germans were forced to withdrawal.

    PTSD
    Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that is triggered by a traumatic event that happened before in their past. With PTSD, you also tend to have anxiety and flashbacks. PTSD often occurs in World War II veterans because of all the fighting and suffering they had to go through. PTSD affects about 30 percent of Vietnam veterans.
