Battle of the Atlantic American
The first attack of the Atlantic campaign. The battle for control of the Atlantic was an important stuggle of the war. Without the arms and supplies from the United States, Great Britain was sure to lose. The German navy had just fifty-seven U-boats available. The average of twenty-three U-boats covering the Atlantic and the North Sea by September were able to cause a little damage because of recurrent torpedo problems. -
North Africa Campaign
Known as the operation Torch. This was the Allies first major victory. -

The turning point of the war for the U.S. Victory over Japan at Midway put them on the defense. -
Battle of Stalingrad
A successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad in the Russian S.F.S.R. during World War II.
Stalin, who was determined to stop the German army’s invasion, employed a "scorched earth" policy. This entailed burning all farms fields and villages in the path of the advancing Germany army to prevent German soldiers from living off the land. -

Battle of Leyte Gulf and the first use of kamikaze pilots
U.S. troops fought their way inland on the Philippines. It was the largest naval battle. The kamikazes committed suicide by crashing their planes into shop to attempt to sink them. -
Battle of the Bulge
It was the last major Nazi offensive against the Allies in World War 2. Hitler ordered a massive attack against what were primarily American forces. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The Americans knew how important Iwo Jima was, so the Japanese were determined to keep control of it. Many Japanese died and it was a bloody battle. -
Battle of Okinawa
Last and biggest of the Pacific island battles of World War II, It was codenamed Operation Iceberg and lasted for 82 days. The main objective of the operation was to seize a large island only 300 miles away from mainland Japan. -
Atomic Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Cities leveled, thousands killed, more larer died of radiation.
Three days later, the U.S. dropped another bomb on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered August 14, 1945.
