    German Parliment passes Enabling Act
    What: Enabling Act, law passed by the German Reichstag (Diet) in 1933 that enabled Adolf Hitler to assume dictatorial powers. It gave Hitler a base from which to carry out the first steps of his National Socialist revolution. WHY The Enabling Act gave Hitler plenary powers and followed on the heels of the Reichstag Fire Decree, which had abolished most civil liberties and transferred state powers to the Reich government.
  • The Gestopo is born

    The Gestopo is born
    Upon becoming Chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler had appointed Goring as Minister of the Interior for the State of Prussia, Germany's biggest and most important state, which controlled two thirds of the country, including the capital, Berlin, and the big industrial centers. As Minister of the Interior, Goring thereby had control of the police. Even though the Gestapo is generally associated with SS Leader Heinrich Himmler, it was actually founded by Hermann Goring in April 1933
  • Nuremberg laws

    At the annual party rally held in Nuremberg in 1935, the Nazis announced new laws which institutionalized many of the racial theories prevalent in Nazi ideology. The laws excluded German Jews from Reich citizenship and prohibited them from marrying or having sexual relations with people who had “German blood” With this is gave Jews very little political rights.

    Coalition formed in 1936 between Italy and Germany. An agreement formulated by Italy's foreign minister Galeazzo Ciano informally linking the two fascist countries was reached on October 25, 1936. It was formalized by the Pact of Steel in 1939. The term Axis Powers came to include Japan as well.

    Japan Invades China

    A battle between Chinese and Japanese troops near Peiping in North China. When this battle was followed by indications of intensified military activity on the part of Japan, Secretary of State Hull urged upon the Japanese Government a policy of self-restraint. In a conversation of July 12 with Japanese Ambassador Saito, Secretary Hull elaborated upon the futility of war and its awful consequences, emphasizing the great injury to the victor as well as to the vanquished in case of war.

    Following World War I, Austria was weakened by a period of economic stagnation and political strife. At this same time Nazi propaganda inside Austria intensified, and as early as 1934, just a year and a half after Hitler came to power in Germany, a group of Nazis seized the Austrian chancellery and attempted to proclaim a government. Though they did not succeed, they did assassinate the chancellor.

    Neville Chamberlain prime minister of Britain and Edouard Daladier the prime minister of France signed the Munich Pact with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler on September 30th, 1938 in order to ward off the outbreak a war. This agreement was signed in western Czechoslovakia.

    November 9th-10th, 1938 in Nazi Germany, Nazis torched synagogues, and also vandalized jewish homes, schools, and businesses. The government allowed this to happen and they didn’t do anything to prevent this and the Jewish people had to pay for the damage the Nazis did to their properties. This killed almost 100 jews. The Kristallnacht was also called “ Night of Broken Glass”. This was important because this left a lot of Jews homeless and out of business and no way to make money for themselves.

Germany invaded Poland because Hitler's dream was to conquer all of Europe and Poland didn’t have a well rounded army and they didn’t have the right equipment. This was important because this will spark WW2, Hitler wanted to regain the territories that he lost at the end of WW1.

    Great Britain and France declared war on Germany in 1939 on September 3rd. They declared war on Germany because Germany invaded Poland and Poland was an allie of both Britain and France. When they declared war they weren’t trying to hurt German civilians. But also the germans had sunk British ship Athenia which had 1,000 passengers on board

    The Battle of France started on May 10th, 1940 and only lasted only 46 days. France and Britain declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland. France’s arms industry was very large and allowed their army to have the ammo and any other supplies they needed. Going into the war most thought that Britain and France would have a very strong fight against the germans. France surrendered after not too long after.

    The Battle of Britain started on July 10th, 1940. It lasted many months as the Germans continued to bomb Britain. Germany was planning on invading Britain. First, Germany attacked towns and army bases. The German army needed to defeat the royal airforce. They bombed airports and the British radar. The German military had more planes and pilots but Britain put up good fights even considering the situation. Britain won this battle.

    The Tripartite pact was an agreement between Germany, Italy, and Japan. It was signed on September 27th, 1940. The Pact provided for mutual assistance should any of the signatories suffer attack by any nation not already involved in the war. The pact also recognized the two spheres of influence, Japan acknowledged that the leadership of Italy and Germany would establish a new order in Europe while Japan will have “lordship” over Greater East Asia.

    This was the code name for the Axis invasion on the Soviet Union, which started on the 22nd of June 1941, during World War 2. The operation put into action Nazi Germany's ideal goal was to conquering the western Soviet Union. They did this so they could repopulate the Soviet Union with Germans.

    On October 2nd 1941, Nazi Germany decided to invade Moscow, because Nazis thought this was a great place because Moscow was like to capital of the Soviet Union, had a lot of their leaders there also. This was important because this was the closest that excess power has gotten close to taking over the capital of the USSR. the war was briefly end in January 7th 1942.

    Operation Barbarossa started on June 22nd, 1941 and ended on December 5th, 1941. This was where Germany wanted to take over the Soviet Union but the Soviets held their ground and didn’t let them invade. This was important because the Germans need the area was the Soviet Union was in order to have advantages in invading more countries. Then, it was a turning point in the war also.

    The Wannsee Conference was a meeting of senior government officials of Nazi Germany and Schutzstaffel leaders. This conference was held in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee on January 20th, 1942. Hitler’s end goal of this meeting was to have a mass murder of the Jews. This was important because Heydrich indicated that about 11 million Jews in Europe would fall under the provisions of the "Final Solution."

    The battle of Midway started on June 4th, 1942 and its ends on June 7th, 1942. It was between the U.S Navy and the Imperial Japanese navy, It happened 6 months after Japan’s attack on pearl harbor. Isoroku. The battle of midway Was on Midway island located almost directly in between the us and japan. The U.S was breaking Japan’s codes and this allowed them to prepare for what was to come. On June 3rd The U.S claimed victory and japan deiced against their goal to reach the pacific.

By taking over the islands it gave them many different places to have troops and supplies while allowing them to be closer to the Japanese.

    D-Day took place on June 6, 1944. D day is the largest amphibious invasion in history, this invasion took years of planning. The majority of troops who were landed on this day were from the United Kingdom, Canada, and the US. All of the allied forces made Germany think the invasion would take place in a different location to catch them off guard.

This was a good this because the US knew it was an easy target because Japan had lost a lot of lost equipment in earlier wars so they couldn’t protect it that well. Japan was ready for them and hind people in the jungles just waiting for them.

Marine Corps troops descended on the Pacific island of Okinawa. The day was Easter Sunday and Japan had enough. This all happened on the island of Okinawa, Japan this was the US’s last stop before reaching Japan. The United States were taking over Japan’s islands one by one getting closer and closer to the mainland.

    Hitler commits suicide on April 30th, 1945. He was held up in his bunker located in Berlin Germany. He did this because the Allies were closing in the capital and the Germans were outnumbered and falling fast. He swallowed a cyanide capsule and then shot himself in the head. Soon after Hitler had commited suicide the Germans had surrendered to the Allied forces which ended Hitler’s dreams of a “1,000-year” Reich.

    Both the United States and Great Britain celebrate a victory in Europe.     an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over Hiroshima which was located in Japan. The explosion wiped out nearly 90 percent of the city and approximately killed 80,000 Japanese people. Then 10,000 more would later die of radiation exposure. This was important because this marked the end for Japan in WW2. The Japanese emperor Hirohito announced his country’s surrender in WW2 in a radio address on August 15.

This was important because the Japanese were the last enemy left against the Allies so once they had surrendered the Allies had won the war and WW2 was over.
