- Russain reached Berlin and Hitler committed suicide and Germany surrendered.

Hitler realized that if he was captured by the Russians, who were the troops overrunning Berlin, any mercy they showed in not killing him immediately would merely be a prelude to a quick trial and then humiliation and death. Rather than show the courage to face the consequences of all he had done, he committed suicide. -
