    Nanking Massacre
    Japanese Soldiers killed hundreds of thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians.
    Japan did not want to lose the city of Nanking in battle.
    The lasting effect was Nanking being left in ruins.
  • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    Germany rearms itself and decides to invade Poland under Hitler's orders.
    Germany sought out redemption to it's people after losing the first world war.
    This action from Germany kicked the second world war into motion because it was a direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles.

    The German's employed their blitzkrieg to take over Poland and when it was successful they used it on other countries.
    It was meant to preserve lives and save artillery, it also helped to shorten military campaigns.
    The long term effect of the blitzkrieg was countries quickly submitting to Germany.
  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    Germany invaded Paris on June 14th 1940, Germany then spied and dictated French citizens lives.
    Germany was making it's move for more territory and global power.
    The lasting effect was the U.S. sent material aid to France and Canadian troops were sent to free France.

    On December 7, 1941 Japanese planes bombed the Navy base in Hawaii.
    Pearl Harbor happened because soldiers thought the dots on their radar were b-17 bombers coming in.
    Because of Pearl Harbor the United States declared war on Japan thus forwarding the U.S. into the second world war.

    D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
    D-Day was the invasion of the coast of France that was under the control of Germany, D-Day is referred to as the beginning off the end of the war in Europe.
    The operation was employed to take back the northern region of France so they could have an opening to defeating Germany.
    The resulting effect was the defeat of Germany the following spring which would end the war.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    Germany tried to use the Blitzkrieg to divide the allied forces but was out maneuvered y General George S. Patton.
    Germany wanted to divide the allied forces to make taking them out easier.
    The effect of this battle was the Allied forces driving the Germans out of the Ardennes Forests.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    American troops landed on the island beach to push back Japanese forces.
    The attack was done to push back the Japanese marines and navy.
    The lasting effect was that the Japanese military was weakened and America gained footing in Japan.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    The Americans landed on the beach of Okinawa in an effort to give the final push to get to Japan.
    They needed to take out air base's on Okinawa so Japan would not have much of an air force.
    The lasting effect of Okinawa was that Japan became cornered in their own backyard and eventually forced to surrender.

    Europe celebrated their victory in the war on May 8th.
    They celebrated because Germany had been defeated and the Nazi territory was liberated.
    The lasting effect was that it ended the second world war.

    America dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
    America wanted Japan to surrender so that the only enemy left was Germany.
    The lasting effect was that Japan surrendered shortly after Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed, in fact it was the next day.

    Japan surrenders which marks the end of the second world war.
    It happened because Japan was bombed and then surrendered.
    The lasting effect was that it officially ended the war.
