    Invasion of Poland

    The invasion of Poland was the sign that world war 2 began with Germany sending 1.5 million troops as well as an overwhelming number of tanks and aircrafts. Because of this Germany was able to swiftly take over Poland and use the land for what they need. That being resources, labor, soldiers, and all sorts of things that would come with taking over territory.
  • Britain and France declare war

    The Invasion of Poland was the final straw, both for Britain and France as it was clear Hitler gave no signs of stopping. Because of this Britain and France stopped trying to appease Germany and instead went to confront him. However this didn't do much as early on in the war the first few months were called "The Phony War" due to France and Britain doing nothing until Germany invades France.

    Battle of France

    The Battle of France was a major offensive operation with Germany and Italy invading France. With France getting minor support from Britain, Spain, and the Netherlands. With the end result being unfortunate due to France losing in just one and a half months. This gave the Axis a major advantage as they are able to launch offensive operations on Britain now as well as now only needing to control the beaches of Europe.

    Miracle of Dunkirk

    The Miracle of Dunkirk, also known as the Dunkirk evacuation was a risky operation to rescue hundreds of thousands of troops from Dunkirk to Britain. As not long after France got invaded, it became necessary to regroup and retreat. However conditions were unfavorable with the Axis close behind. Because of this evacuating over-seas seemed unlikely. But because of a "miracle" weather conditions were perfect, alongside a multitude of other factors. Which allowed for 338,000 troops to be rescued.

    Battle of Britain

    The Battle of Britain marks the first successful battle against Germany since the war initially started. With hope amongst many people dwindling and morale low due to constant losses and the terrifying German forces. Because of this the Battle of Britain is significant in that it brings hope and morale back to the soldiers. With the battle being the first major air battle right above London. The countries involved in the battle were the United Kingdoms, Canada, Germany, and Italy.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Pearl harbor was an attack by Japan on the United States, which happened due to economic hardships. Another factor as well was the fact that the US was aiding China in supplies and money while Japan was fighting a war with China. All in all this attack influenced the war greatly as previously the US was standing neutral in WW2. But this attack had the US finally take a stance and join the allies in WW2.

    USA enters the war
    Just 5 days after pearl harbor, the US joined WW2 with revenge in their minds and joined the war on two fronts. Europe and Pacific, with US fighting Germany and Italy in Europe. The other half fighting Japan in the Pacific.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    Six months after Pearl Harbor in a naval battle against Japan. The U.S. Navy was able to inflict heavy damage to Japan's naval army with four Japanese aircraft carriers having been sunk. As well as a heavy cruiser, all of which being an essential part of the Japanese fleet. As opposed to the U.S. only losing an aircraft carrier and a destroyer. Because of this, it gave the U.S. a major advantage over Japan in upcoming battles.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    The USSR having been sided with Hitler for the first part of the war. Had betrayed Stalin in their alliance, launching an invasion with some allies towards Stalingrad. Which would have been a major turning point due to it being an essential industrial centre of the USSR, a great source of oil, and territorial advantages. However due to the distance, supply lines were stretched and resources were scarce. Which alongside strategic attacks severely wounded the Axis forces and caused a retreat.
  • Raid on Dieppe

    Raid on Dieppe
    The Dieppe Raid was an attempt at retaking Western Europe with small scale attacks. This was done to over-time wear down the German forces. However the raid was a disaster with quite literally everything that could've gone wrong, going wrong. Whether that be miscommunication, being late, and ambushes. Which all in all resulted in 2853 Canadian soldiers being either killed or captured, 247 British troops dying, and a multitude of aircrafts and ships being destroyed.

    D-Day
    D-Day (also known as the Normandy landings) was the first landings on Western Europe after Germany took over France. With all kinds of countries partaking in the war. The most prominent ones being Canada, Uk, and the United States. With some help from numerous other European countries. The event happened in Normandy France and allowed the Allies to go on the offense for the first time during the war. Which eventually lead to the victory of WW2 about a year later.
  • WW2 Ends on Europe's side

    Germany, and Italy surrendered and the war ended. With conflict in Europe finally ending.
  • Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima

    Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima
    After 4 years of work, the Manhattan Project was complete. Which was the creation of the first atomic bomb. While beforehand pamphlets were dropped over cities warning them of bombings and such. It didn't warn of Hiroshima or the atomic bomb. Due to wanting the shock factor to be that much greater and to urge Japan to surrender. Because of this Hiroshima took the lives of atleast 120,000 lives and potentially much more.
  • Atomic bomb gets dropped on Nagasaki

    Atomic bomb gets dropped on Nagasaki
    Following the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan believed they would be able to endure more atomic bombs until U.S. ran out, however after another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan decided to surrender as the damage was too great and the casualties were too high.
