    Picture They made fighter aircrafts for WWII. The Bell P-39 was one of the most famous fighter jets they made for WW2. Fun Fact: They built the first airplane to break the speed of sound.

    September 1, 1939, The cause of WW2 was Germany invading Poland. Allies came to help, such as Britain and France. They declared war on Germany.     PictureThe lend-lease policy a policy where the U.S. supplied allied nations with food, oil, and other materials. This was used to give the U.S. more allies for help in the war. It helped the U.S. with their defense in the war. Fun Fact: This was a way for the other allies to get weapons that could lead to more wars in the future.

    PictureThis was when Japanese fighter planes bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 2,400 people were killed in this event. This was what brought U.S. into the World War. Fun Fact: 23 sets of brothers died aboard USS Arizona.

    PictureThe Savannah Shipyard held 88 ships for the war. This also supplied many jobs for the war for African Americans. Fun Fact: The original number of ships it was supposed to hold was 36, but it ended up holding 88.
    The Brunswick shipyard was used for exportation of goods for the war. They built 99 ships for the war. Fun fact: It was located only 70 miles away from the Savannah shipyard.

    PictureRussell was the youngest member of the U.S. senate in 1933. He reorganized Georgia's government during the war by making there be less agencies. Fun Fact: He was appointed to the Naval Affairs Committee.

    PictureVinson was the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Vinson was a voice for America during the war. Fun Fact: He was the voice of the U.S. during the Cold War as well.

    Picture This was the day when Allied forces invaded Northern France. 156,000 American, British, and Canadian troops were put into battle in France. Fun Fact: On D-day the soldiers used H-hours to refer to the time on D-day.

    Yalta Conference

    PictureThis was a meeting between Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and Roosevelt. This happened while WW2 was coming to an end. During this conference, the three leaders agreed to demand Germany's surrender and they also began plans for post-war. Fun Fact: 700 people attended this conference, but they wanted it to be a secret.
  • Hitler's Death

    PictureHe died in Berlin, Germany. He committed suicide. Fun Fact: His wife also committed suicide with him by taking cyanide and poisoning herself.
  • Surrender of Germany

    PictureDue to leaders killing themselves and getting captured, Germany surrendered. When Germany surrendered the war ended. Fun Fact: This day was called V-E day.
  • Hiroshima Bombing

    Picture This was when an American B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. They did this act as revenge on them bombing pearl harbor. (Albert Einstein participated in the creation of the atomic bomb, which was the first one to ever be deployed.)
  • Nagasaki Bombing

    PictureThis event happened right after Hiroshima was bombed. This bomb completely obliterated Japan. This occurred during the final stage of WW2. Fun Fact: The testing of the bombs costed $2 billion.
  • Creation of the UN

    PictureThis was a group of Allied nations who pledged to use all of their full resources against the axis. They also had to pledge not to make separate peace. Fun Fact: 26 nations were involved in this.
