  • German Anschluss with Austria

    Hitler followed his plan and attempted to unify all German-speaking people. First, he annexed Austria and demanded the liberation of German people in the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia.
  • Treaty of Munich

    Hitler, Munich, Daladier and Mussolini met in Munich and agreed that Hitler should have the Sudetenland. The Czechs were not represented in the meeting and were forced to surrender the land.
  • Hitler Invades Czechoslovakia

    Even though Hitler gave assurance to Czechoslovakia that he wouldn't invade them, he went and did it anyway
  • Britain Reassures and Rearms Poland

    Britain took Poland under their wing and gave them early-warning radar as well as weapons to defend against the Fuhrer
  • Russia and Germany Sign A Pact

    Hitler and Stalin sign a non-aggression pact which included secretive clauses regarding the division of Poland
  • Hitler Invades Poland

    Hitler invaded Poland, there's not much else to it than that10
  • Britain and France Declare War on Germany

    Neville Chamberlain broadcast to the entire country that they were officially at war against Germany
  • "Phoney War"

    People saw no military action from Britain which led them to call it the "Phoney War"
  • Hitler Invades Denmark and Norway

    Hitler came through to cut off Swedish ore supply routes and establish a Norwegian base from which he could break through the British Naval Blocade
  • British rout Italians in North Africa

    General Wavell defeated the Italian army
  • Chamberlain resigns

    Neville Chamberlain resigned and Winston Churchill came to power
  • Dunkirk (Operation Dynamo)

    An insane rescue mission that resulted in the rescue of 338,000 men
  • Italy joins axis powers

    Italy enters the war to pick at the spoils of war
  • France signs armistice with Germany

    This resulted in France being taken out of the war and taken over by Germany
  • Battle of Britain

    The raids lasted up till Halloween night
  • Tripartite Pact

    This pact of mutual alliance was signed by Germany, Italy and Japan
  • Italy and Germany attack Yugoslavia

    German field Marshall Erwin Romemel led the axis powers back to North Africa after attacking Yugoslavia and Crete
  • Hitler Attacks Russia—Operation Barbarossa

    Hitler sent 3 million soldiers and 3,500 tanks into Russia despite the treaty they had signed in 1939
  • Pearl Harbor

    The Japanese launched a surprise attack on the US Pacific fleet as a preliminary to taking British, French and Dutch colonies
  • Britain and US declare war on Japan

  • Japanese Take Singapore

    The Japanese captured Singapore from the British, taking some 60,000 prisoners

    The USA defeated the Japanese and pushed them back
  • Allies in North Africa

    The campaign’s commander was changed from Alexander to Montgomery
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Russia’s first victory against Germany
  • Allies Push into North Africa

    British and American forces gradually assumed control of French Morocco and Algeria. They closed in on the Germans here
  • Battle of El Alamein

    Montgomery chased the German-Italian army 1500 miles across the desert

    British forces with the help from guerrilla-fighting Chindits evicted the Japanese from Burma

    Allies launched an attack on Germany’s forces in Normandy, Western France
  • Paris Liberated

    The French Capital was freed from German control
