Japanese Invasion of China
As WW2 was on its way, Japan invades Manchuria in efforts to gain raw materials in 1931. By 1937 majority of China was under control of the Japanese. The United States and other countries didn't like the aggression of Japan in this events. -
German Blitzkreig
German Blitzkreig is a type of warfare. Known as "lightning war" because it is warfare where you send bombs down out of air planes in the sky. It was created and used by Hitler ot get an advandage on his enemies. This caused the Germans to have a lot of success over Europe in the early days of the war. -
Fall of Paris
The fall of Paris happened during the battle of France. Germany had just invaded Poland and they invaded France next causing the battle of France. They made Paris fall and successfully isolated Great Britian. -
Operation Barbarossa
The mission with this operation was to destroy the Soviet's fighting power. Germany was trying to expand eastward, this mission failed. The poor strategy and planning of this event caused it to be unsuccessful. -
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was an aerial attack from the Japanese on the US naval base Pearl harbor in Hawaii. Japan came to gain resources and to criple the US military, knowing that all 8 battleships would be in the same spot. As an outcome of this, on Dec. 7th, 1941, 19 naval ships were damaged incudling all 8 US battleships being destroyed, four were severly damaged and four were completely sunk, 2,403 people were killed including 68 civilians. -
Wannsee Conference
The conference was a meeting of high-level German officials. They would discuss the so-called "Final Solution the Jewish question." Which we know means mass murder and genocide. -
Allied Invasion of Italy
The Allied countries with Churhill in charge invaded Italy. They did this to remove Italy from WWII and secure the Mediteranian Sea. This was also done in efforts to force Germany to divert from the Russian front and the Northern France front. -
Operation Gomorrah
This was a new way of war. Operation Gomorrah was strategic bombing that aimed at factories and unfrastructure. Created to stay away from the bloody trench warfare of WWI and also to destroy enemy nations. -
D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
The Normandy invasion was the airborne assault on Nazi-occupied France. Starting with the Normandy beaches and working their was in, the U.S., Britain, and Canada successfully completed their objective of gaining a foothold in France. France was occupies by the Nazi's and this attack was to wiggle their way into Germany to take Hitler down. -
Battle of the Bulge
After the attack on Normandy, Hitler put together a a counter attack with hopes of running through the allied forces and putting himself in a better postion to succeed this war. The oppostie happened, the allied powers won and from then on out Hitler would never be able to launch an offensive in the West at such a scale. -
Liberation of Concentration Camps
The forced liberation of Majdnek and Auschuitz happened because of Soviet troops moving westward. They came across both camps and set the victims free and did their best to help them in any way they could. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
This war was caused by the conflict between the U.S. and the empire of Japan. It was on of the bloodiest battles in history for the U.S. Marine Corps. It ended with the U.S. securing Japan and Japan disbanding their military. -
VE Day
VE Day was the day Germany surrendered and Europe was celebrating the victory. The Normandy invasioin being the beginning of the end for Adolf Hitler as he continued to lose power and finally surrendered. That day was widely celebrated throughout Europe. -
Dropping of Atomic Bombs
The first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945. Japan had shown no signs of surrender or give up, so the American leaders decided it was best to make them. Harry Truman ordered atomic bombs to be dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. -
VJ Day
Victory over Japan day is in the name. Following VE day and the victory over Hitler, VJ day was just as sweet. On Sept. 2, 1945 documents were signed aboard the USS Missouri as the formal surrender of Japan.
