Soon after the Pearl Harbor attack Germany and Italy declare war on the US. -
Bataan Death March
After the Japanese invasion of the Philipines they soon took control of Batann. Allied forces surrendered on April 9, and were on their way to prison camps by the next day. The Japanese tortured American soldiers through the whole march and many were killed. -

In the Battle of Midway, the United States gets one of the most important victories in the Pacific Campaign. Japan gets pushed back, and losses 4 aircraft carriers. -

Guadalcanal
Japan started to controll the Pacific after pushing the Americans out of the Philipines. They took Guadalcanal and set up an airfield, and threatened Australia. In August, America made the first amphibous assualt of the war and took control of the Island. For 6 months the island was a battlefield, as a fight for control ensued. By Febuary of 1943 Japan gave up on trying to take the island. -
End of Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad was the fight for the Soviet city Stalingrad between Axis Powers and the USSR. The German 6th Army had made it into the city of Stalingrad, but was surrounded with no food and constant attacks. Aftyer months of fighting because of Hitler's "stand fast" methods, the German Army was destroyed. -

Invasion of Sicily
Allies plan to take Sicily was called operation Huskey. It was a major amphibous and air assault. The fighting lasted for a month and resulted in Axis powers evacuating. This victory for the Allies got Benito Mussolini out of power. -

Even though Italy had surrendered to the Allies, Germany did not want to lose Rome. They set up a defensive line called the Winter Line, but after 6 months of fighting lost Rome to the Allies. -

The Invasion of Normandy by Alllied forces against Nazi Germany was a desicive victory for the Allies. Heavy losses were experienced on both sides. -
Kamikaze Attacks Begin
Kamikazes were suicide attacks by the Japanese military. If a japanese airforce personal was getting shot down or was out of weapons were surpossed to fly their plans into US ships. The first Kamaze attack was on an Australian ship in the Leyete Gulf. -

This one month battle was a major German offensive through the Ardennes Mountains in Belgium. The Allies were able to push the Germans back and get a victory. -
Raising of the Flag on Mt. Suribachi
The raising of the American flag on Mt Suribachi came in the invasion of Iwo Jima. After taking the beach, the Allied forces moved up the mountain. When 5 Marines went to raise the American flag a photographer happened to be there. -
U-Boats blow up mechant ships
U-boats destroy Allied ships. -

Battle of Okinawa
The battle of Okinawa was the biggest amphibous assault of the Pacific Campaign. Allies invaded the island of Okiniawa and after almost 3 months of fighting the allies take the island, but the war will end in a couple months. -
Harry Truman becomes President
After 3 months into his 4th term President Roosevelt died. His Vice President Harry Truman succeded him to become President. -
Hitler Commits Suicide
The accepted result of death for Adolf Hitler is suicide by gunshot and cyanide poisioning. No one knows where the corpse is though. -
V-E Day
V-E Day stands for victory day in Euope. This was the day that the Allied forces accept the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany. Hitler committed suicde on April 30, so his next in command signed the surrender. -
Hiroshima
Hiroshima is a Japanese city. It was the first city in the world to be hit by an atomic bomb. The bombing came at the end of WW2 and combined with USSR involvment and the bombing of Nagasaki, forced Japan to surrender. -
Nagasaki
Nagasaki is a Japanese city, and was the only city in the world besides hiroshima that has been hit with an Atomic bomb. The atomic bomb came at the end of WW2 and a day after USSR declaration of war on Japan. -
V-J Day
This is the day Japan surrenderd to the US. This date marks the end of WW2. -
Formal Surrender of Japan
After the dropping of the two atomic bombs on August 6 and August 9, and imminent invasion from US and USSR forces, Japan didn't have much choice but to surrender.
