Winston Churchill Becomes Prime Minister
Winston Churchill was known for his military leadership ability and was appointed as prime minister instead of Chamberlain. The dictator of Italy, Benito Mussolini declares war on France and Great Britain. Italy’s lack of raw materials made Mussolini wary of waging war. Battle of Britain
In 1940, German and British air forces fought above the United Kingdom, it was the longest bombing campaign so far. The first attack was on September 7 was successful but the second one on September 15, failed with a collapse of German crews and British soldiers killed them. Consequently, Hitler suspended the Battle of Britain.

Axis Powers Break Non Aggression Pact

Attack on Pearl Harbor
Hundreds of Japanese fighter jets attacked the American naval base in Pearl Harbor which is near Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack on Pearl harbor was both expected and a surprise, the conflict between Japan and America has been going on for decades. After 2 years of conflict, America finally joined World War 2.

Bataan Death March
Americans and Filipinos that surrendered were collected by Japanese forces to march 65 miles from Mariveles to San Fernando, this took about 5 days. Thousands of troops died because of brutality, starvation, and stabbing those who were too weak. The survivors were taken to prisoner-of-war camps, where they died from disease, mistreatment, and starvation.

Battle of Coral Sea
The battle marked the first air-sea in History. The Japanese were trying to seek control of the Coral Sea with the invasion of Port Moresby, but the Allied Powers interrupted this. When the Japanese landed, aircraft carrier planes of the American task forces started attacking them. The Japanese forces ended up leaving and the Allied Powers won.

Battle of Midway
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S defeated Japan in the final naval battles of World War 2. Thanks to advances in code breaking, the United States was able to find out Japan's planned ambushing with its few remaining aircrafts. Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad was a successful Soviet defense of Stalingrad during the World War 2 and one of the bloodiest battles in history with almost 2 million military and civilian causalities.This battle stopped the Germans from advancing into the Soviet Union and marked the turn of war in favour the Allies.

Italy Surrenders to Allies
Badoglio approved of surrender, allowing the allies to land in Southern Italy and fighting the Germans up the peninsula. The allied invasion of Italy started, the next day the allied troops landed in Salerno and Germany joined them. Hitler made plans to invade Italy to keep the Allies from gaining power to reach the German-occupied Balkans.

D-Day
Battle of Normandy began when American, British, and Canadian forces landed on France's Normandy region. The war was delayed for 1 day due to the weather. On June 6, the troops were already behind the enemy lines, securing bridges, and exit roads. More than 4,000 allied troops lost their lives, with thousands more wounded or missing.

Liberation of Paris
On August 22, Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower agreed to proceed with the liberation of Paris.The 2nd Armored Division underwent heavy German artillery, despite the many casualties, they managed to cross the Seine and reach the Paris suburbs on August 24. German powers surrendered or fled, but those who stayed were overcome quickly.

Battle of Bulge
The purpose was to split the Allied armies for surprise invasion through Ardennes to Antwerp. The Allies’ leadership left the Ardennes lightly defended by only two inexperienced American divisions. On December 16, three German armies started the deadliest war in Ardennes.

Battle of Iwo Jima
Invasion of Iwo Jima was wanting a place where damaged B-29 bombers over Japan could land without going all the way to the Marianas and a base for protector fighters that would help in the bombing campaign. Japanese troops no longer defended at the beach line but on inland. The Japanese fought from an elaborate network of tunnels.

President Roosevelt's health has declined, his complexion and weakness had his friends concerned about his health. The president needed rest and a chance to regain his strength so he traveled to the "Little White House" in Georgia. Dachau Liberation
The first concentration camp established by Nazis was liberated by the U.S Seventh Army's Infantry Division. A major Dachau sub camp was also liberated the same day by the 42nd Rainbow Divison.

Germany Surrenders
General Eisenhower demanded surrender of German forces, in the East and the West. If Germany didn't meet his demand, Eisenhower will close off the Western front, preventing Germans from fleeing to the West. Jodl radioed Grand Donitz and Donitz ordered him to sign.

Atomic Bomb- Hiroshima
To end conflict between Japan and America, president Truman decides to drop the first bomb on Japan, known as “Little Boy” by parachute and it exploded 2,000 feet above Hiroshima in a blast equal to 12-15,000 tons of TNT, destroying five square miles of the city.

Atomic Bomb- Nagasaki
The devastating atomic bomb on Hiroshima was not enough to convince the Japanese Council to accept the demand for unconditional surrender. 3 days later, a second atomic bomb dropped at Nagasaki which resulted to surrender.
