German Invasion of Poland
German forces storm the Polish border. Adolf Hitler wanted to create a German empire by conquering all of Europe. The Polish have poor weaponry and are easily defeated. This event was the start of WW2 -
German Blitzkreig
Germany used a new invading tactic which helped them take countries quickly. It began with Poland, but soon the Nazis owned most of Europe. This created a large war between Germany and the remaining, unconquered European countries. -
Fall of Paris
German forces took the city of Paris, and it fell. The Canadians tried to fight the Nazis, but they were not strong enough to beat them. France became part of the German empire. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese bombers launnched a suprise attack on a Hawaiian harbor. The Japanese were enraged because the US cut off all trade with them during the war, so the attack was a retalliation. The United States becomes involved in the war after this. -
Allied Invasion of Italy
Britan attempted to invade and take Italy from the Nazis. By pushing the forces south they thought they could corner them on the coast. However, this was unsuccessful, so Britan had to wait for another chance. -
Normandy Invasion
Americans stormed the French coast (which was occupied by Germany) with as much weaponry and ships as they could bring. This was the United States first attempt at attacking the Nazis, and it was successful. The US proceeded to invade and conquer the entire Nazi empire -
Battle of the Bulge
When the Allies were scouting through the forests of Ardennes, the Germans launched a suprise attack on them while they were off guard. Despite having the upper hand, Germany lost the fight and most of their military personnel. As a result, their army became much weaker. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The US invaded the Japanese owned island of Iwo Jima. The island would provide an excellent staging area. They successfully took the island after a relatively short battle. -
VE Day
Europe had been through years of hardship. But after five years of crisis, the Nazi empire was over and WW2 had ended in Europe, so all of Europe celebrated. It is now a federal holiday in France, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. -
Battle of Okinowa
A series of battles in which the US tried to take the islands of Ryukyu. This land would also provide a good staging area. After they were taken, the US had successfully conquered all of Japans pocket resistance. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
Even after Germany surrendered, Japan wouldn't stop fighting in the war. The United States dropped nuclear weapons on two major Japanese cities- Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They would have incinerated anybody within the blast range and over 129,000 were killed -
VJ Day
After the bombs were dropped in Japanese cities, Japan surrendered to the US. They had underestimated the power of nuclear weapons. This ended WW2 once and for all.
