  • Battle of El Alamein

    The Panzer Army Africa and the British 8th Army squared off in El Alamein, Egypt. The Allies won. This was important as it boosted Allies morale and stopped the Axis campaign into Africa. It also gave the Allies control of the Persian Oil fields, which helped our effort a lot.

  • Battle of Stalingrad

    In Stalingrad, the Red Army launched their Operation Uranus. They trapped German forces inside and kept them there for 5 months before the remaing German troops surrendered.
  • Battle of Midway

    In Midway, the Japanese wanted to occupy them to gain a foothold in the Pacific. They launched an attack, but Americans intercepted their code and caught them by surprise. The Americans sunk 4 Japanses Aircraft Carriers and a heavy cruiser. This battle was important as it gave Americans a foothold in the Pacific and steadily pushed the Japenese back to Japan.

    D-Day, or the beginning of the Normandy Invasions. Allied Forces tricked Hitler into believing that they were landing at Pas-de-Calais. Instead they invaded Normandy, and took control of Northern France. This was important because it was a huge psychological blow to the Germans.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    In this battle, the Germans launched an attack on the Allied forces in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg line. The Allies were completely taken aback by this, but they easily won the battle and it went downhill from there for the Germans. This was important because it easily allowed us to cross the Rhine River and seize Germany
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima was where the Americans captured the island and its 3 airfields to further their campaign against the Japanese. It was the bloodiest battle of WW2. This battle was important because it was the first battle on Japanese homeground, so their was no thought of surrender among the Japanese ranks.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    This battle was staged on the Ryukyu Islands of Okinawa. The Americans won 82 days after fighting. The Japanese really went on the defensive with Kamikaze fighters and brutal ground forces. Soon after, we dropped the bombs on Japan, forcing a surrender. This was important because it was a large factor in the surrender of Japan.
