Japn invaded China in 1937 which lasted till 1945. They had their miliaty base in Manchuria. Japan wanted resources mainly in China. -

This conference was from Feb. 4-11. This was a conference between Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill where they planned the final stages of war. They also had agreements on territories in Europe. -
Iwo Jima/Okinawa
Battle of Iwo Jima was a battle that lasted for 6 weeks. Many US Marines and Japense soldiers were killed. Also, this battle was know for the famous picture of US Marines lifting the US flag up. Battle of Okinawa lasted for three months. The US army was using the island hopping campaign. The US had invaded Okinawa, which was close to Japan. Both the US and Japanese lost alot of men. -
Hitler’s suicide
Hitler killed himself by cyanide and a gunshot in his Fuhrerbunker in Berlin. -

An important confrence between Churchill, Stalin, and Truman to talk about post-WW2. This was held at Potsdam. They discussed reparations, European peace settlements, etc. -
Atomic bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki
August 6 1945: An american B-29 bomber deployed the worlds first atomic bomb in Hiroshima. This made instant damage with killing almost 90% of the people. Three days later another bomb was dropped in Nagasaki. Japense surrenedered after these bombings in WW2. -

This day marked the surrender of Japan, and it also led to end WW2. It's also knows as Victory over Japan. (VJ day) -

This doctrine was created by Truman, and it provided economic and miliary aid to Greece or Turkey so they would not fall into communist hands. -

This was a plan where the US offered the European nations help so they can rebuild their area. The catch was the Europeans could only use this money on American goods and services, George Marshall had created this plan. -

North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This was a defence alliance that would help prevent communism coming to the west. -

He was a Soviet statesman who a secretary of the Communist party. He was also president of the USSR, His reforms led to the breakup of the communist party. -

Mao Zedong is the leader of the Chinese Communist part, and he also founded the peoples Republic of China which was established in Oct 1 1949. -
Korean War
This was a battle by the Koreans and the United Nations. Also knowns as the "Forgotten War". The cause was the invading of South Korean by the North Koreans. -
Stalin’s death; Khrushchev
After Stalin died in 1953, there was no one else to be ruler because he had no successor. That is where Khrushchev comes in. He was elected as 1st seceratary of the Communist party. He was really dedicated too. He thought communism was the best form of ruling. -

This was a response to when Germany joined NATO. The Soviet Union felt threatened, so they made the Warsaw pact which was an alliance of the SU and eastern European states. -

First artificial Earth satellite that was created in Moscow. The US was afraid that the Soviet Union might spread their communist ideas, so the creation of this satellite lead to the space race. -

Lasted from 1959-1975. This was a conflict between South Vietnam and North Vietnam and Vietcong. The US , S Korea, etc aided South Vietnam . -

This was an American attempt of trying to invade Cuba by training Cuban exiles to help them over throw Fidel Castro. -

This was a crisis between Us and Sovits. This happened because there was a secert Soviet attempt to put deploy nuclear missles In Cuba. -

Soviet Union was falling into independent states early 1985. The Afghan war had also played a huge role because it weaked the union. Also, they had poor economic reforms.
