Considered the bloodiest battle in history Germany took on the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad. The Soviet delivered a catastrophic blow to Germany with a huge defeat taking control of Stalingrad. -
D-DAY
The D-Day operation involved land, air, and sea forces of the allied countries. Naval assault divisions were sent to the beaches of Normandy, France in one of the largest invasions in human history. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
This battle was a major battle in which the United States Military Corps and Navy took the on Army of Japan. Americans ended up winning this battle capturing the island of Iwo Jima from Japan. -
Germany Surrenders
The unconditional surrender from Germany came in the early morning on May 7th, 1945. -
Hiroshima
An American B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima. This explosion immediately killed 80,000 people and 10,000 later died to radiation. -
Nagasaki
3 days after the Hiroshima bombing a second B-29 dropped another atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. This one still deadly but not as deadly as the first with an estimate 40,000 killed. -
Japan Surrender/End of WW2
About 20 days after the bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki struck Japan Surrenders. This ultimately ended the war giving the Allies the victory.
