Immediately following Hitler's 1 month long invasion of Poland that was successful, France and the United Kingdom declared war against Germany. -
Battle of France
After the capture of France, Hitler essentially became control of almost all of Europe. His attention soon turned towards the U.K. as well as attacking his ally, the U.S.S.R. which quickly became an enemy as they were attacked. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese forces attacked the U.S. naval ships at the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Although this was not actually a very large offensive attack, it did spark the U.S. to join the Allies side of World War Two. -
Stalingrad
This attack from Germany towards the U.S.S.R. led to Soviet Russia switching sides to help the Allied side of the war. Russia soon attacked the German forces occupying their territory and captured it back. -
D-Day
A large influx of Allied troops landed on Normandy, France, marking the change from the Axis in power to the Allied forces in power. This essentially marked the beginning of the end of World War Two. It's an iconic battle of this war. -
Iwo Jima
The capture of Iwo Jima by U.S. forces helped to break down Japan's forces. -
Okinawa
With the 2 month invasion on Okinawa, came many American deaths. Even though the capture of Okinawa was an important strategic move towards the offense against Japan, Truman decided to pull the troops to avoid a lot of unnecessary bloodshed. The U.S. continued their attack by dropping atomic bombs on a few regions of Japan. -
Battle of Berlin
This was essentially the last battle within World War Two. After the fall of Berlin, Hitler quickly killed himself only a short distance away. Although it is not necessarily the official end of World War Two, it is the last big battle that takes place during the war.
