The Holocaust was the genocide of European Jews during WW2. Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe, around two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population. -

German troops invaded Poland in a surprise attack, sparking the beginning of WW2. Poland was overwhelmed by Germany's material and strategical advantage. Poland surrendered, and the invasion ceased on October 5. This caused France and Great Britain to declare war on Germany. -

Under the codename Operation "Barbarossa", Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union, which had previously been an ally in the war against Poland. It was the largest military ground invasion in history, with some 3.8 million troops, thousands of tanks and aircraft, and more than half a million horses. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese Military launched a surprising attack on the US Naval base at Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 service members and wounding 1,178 more. The attack sank or destroyed 6 U.S. ships and 169 planes.
