Canadians at Hong Kong
Canada sent the Winnipeg Grenadiers and the Royal Rifles of Canada to defend the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong from Japanese invasion on October 27th 1941. After just 17 days of battle, there were 290 deaths and Canada was forced to surrender. The remaining soldiers were put into Prisoner of War Camps where they were tortured and starved for over three and a half years.

Dieppe Raid
The element of surprise was ruined when German ships opened fired on the Allied ships. Sleeping soldiers were awakened by the fire. By the time the Allied forces arrived at the beaches the Germans were ready. The British commanders were inexperienced with this raid and handled it badly. When troops hit the beaches they were mowed down by gunfire and artillery shells. -

Allies going in to Italy was because they wanted to create a position in Italy, so they could attack the German territories and resources and relieve the Soviet Union from the German advance. The second purpose was to keep German forces otherwise occupied so they might be used to resist the channel invasion. Churchill and many commanders didn't think the Germans would defend Italy and assumed the campaign would be completed by end of 1944. -

D-Day happened because France was occupied by Nazi Germany and needed to be freed. Also It was recognized that the war could not be won without American intervention. So D-Day was organized to put an end to world war II

Liberation of Europe
In the final months of the Second World War, Canadian forces were given the important and deadly task of liberating the Netherlands from Nazi occupation. From September 1944 to April 1945, the First Canadian Army fought German forces on the Scheldt estuary —opening the port of Antwerp for Allied use — and then cleared northern and western Netherlands of Germans, allowing food and other relief to reach millions of desperate people. -

The battle of the Atlantic is the longest ,military campaign in WW2, lasting from September 1939 to 1945. Canada played a vital role in this battle by using a plan that consisted of surrounding the merchant ships with battle ships to escort the supplies to Britain.
