  • Nuremberg Laws

    Nuremberg Laws
    The Nuremberg laws were laws that were institutionalized that were racist and based of the German ideologies. The laws were prejudice against Jews and stated things like the Jews could not have sexual relationships with non Jews and would be identified in certain ways. Eventually the Germans had forced Jews in ghettos and concentration camps to do hard labor, be tortured and killed. These laws contributed to the genocide that killed 11 million people.
  • Munich Pact

    Munich Pact
    This was an agreement that said that Germany could keep the Rhineland, the Sudetenland and the north part of Czechoslovakia. The Allies had appeased Germany until now and said that Germany was not allowed to take over Czechoslovakia. This is significant because the Allies had realized that Hitler was slowly getting stronger and Germany had to pay for some of the WW1 consequences. If Britain had attacked Germany sooner, then Germany may not have grown so powerful and attacked Britain and France.

    This event lasted throughout the war The Final Solution was the plan was the Nazi plan to exterminate the Jews and other people that the Nazis didn't like. This plan is what led to the largest genocide in history and changed the way people look at the different people
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    Battle of the Atlantic
    This battle lasted throughout the war and Britain relied on Canadian reinforcements and Germany U-boats roamed the Atlantic ocean hunting down Allied ships. On July 1942, U-boats sunk 143 Allied cargo ships. This determined Canada to improve their Navy and by the end of the war Canada owned the fourth largest Navy. The price of the Atlantic war was high but the war was a very dominant force in winning the war because it helped out many things overseas.

    Canada joins the war
    After Canada had suffered many loses in WW1, Mackenzie King was reluctant to join the war. Britain and France had joined the war and Canada joined shortly after(to prove that they were an independent country, not tied down to Britain). Canada was very important in certain battles throughout the war such as the Battle of Britain where they provided Britain with needed supplies and pilots. They were also important on D-Day where they had advanced more km than any other country on the beach.

    Nazi-Soviet Non-aggression Pact
    This was a pact signed by the Germans and the Russians saying that both of them would split Poland in half and not invade each other. This pact was significant because it allowed Germany to attack the western part of Europe while not having to worry about the eastern part of Europe. This was very surprising to the other parts of the world considering Germany and the Soviet Union had two different ideologies but the pact helped Germany a lot.

    Germany had invaded France through the Belgium but France was prepared to fight a war like WW1. The French were quickly defeated and had retreated to Dunkirk on the English Channel. France was a very big part of the Allies and Germany taking them down took a huge toll on the Allies. The invasion is also very important because it was a consequence of France and Britain deciding to appease Hitler.

    Miracle at Dunkirk
    The soldiers fighting in France were surrounded at Dunkirk on the English Channel and they needed help badly. As the Germans were closing in, Britain gathered all of its boats that could carry people to help out the surrounded soldiers at Dunkirk. The Allies were successful in rescuing the troops but overall France had fallen. This event was very significant because on of the major Allies(France) had fallen but the rescuing of troops almost seemed as a victory and a morale boost.

    The Battle of Britain was dog fight between Germany and Britain/Canada. Hitler ordered Germans to destroy British airfields and radars to prevent the RAF from stopping the Luftwaffe but eventually Britain forced them to retreat. This battle was significant cause it showed other countries how air force was very important to the war and Hitler's mistake by letting up on the Britain. If Germany had won, the world would have looked a lot different because events like D-Day would't exist.

    The Nazis made this code name for the invasion of the Soviet Union. This invasion had a high causalities and the attack influenced the Soviet Union to join the Allies. Russia played a big part in defeating the Germans because they could attack Germany from the Western Front and relieve some of the pressure off of the Eastern Front for the other Allies to attack.

    Start of the Pacific Theater
    The Pacific war had started after Pearl Harbor and America joining the war. The war was between the Allies and Japan as Japan wanted to extend their connections along the Pacific Ocean. This was a disadvantage for the Allies because they had to focus on both Europe and the Pacific and their resources were split whereas Germany and Japan focused on their areas.

    Pearl Harbour
    The Japanese wanted to grow their Pacific empire so they decided to launch an attack on Peal Harbor. It was an American naval base in Hawaii and the attack killed 2,4,03 people and damaged 14 warships and 347 aircraft. The Americans immediately joined the Allies and played a big part in defeating Germany in the war. The attack had also influenced America to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which killed almost 400,000 people.

    Dieppe Raid
    Dieppe Raid was a Canadian raid that occurred because the Soviets were attack on the Western Front and urged the Allies to attack. The Allies were not ready to attack and did not prepare so they were quickly defeated. There was a lot of causalities. This raid was the greatest sacrifice of Canadian lives in WW2 and was considered a disaster but the raid was almost like a practice run and helped the Canadians during D-Day.

    D-Day
    D-Day was significant because this attack was the turning point in the war after other allied attacks had failed. Taking back France had paved the Allies to attack Germany from the western front. The battle was an invasion on the beaches of Normandy and the Allies were faking an attack east near Calais. The Canadians had pushed through their 8 kilometer stretch of concrete bunkers, barbed-wire barriers,landmines, and massive antitank defenses.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    Even though Germany had surrendered, the war was still going on. The Japanese still continued to fight so the Americans decided to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This event was significant because marked the end of WW2 because Japan had lost 70,000 civilians right away plus more deaths due to the after effects. The bomb had also scared other countries due to the devastation of Hiroshima. The second bombing was just to make sure Japan wouldn't retaliate.
