This came as a big shock to America due to the fact that they had no fighting history. Thankfully the U.S. had some Navy that was not in Pearl Harbour at the time. This pulled the U.S.A. into the war.

    Canada sent roughly 2,000 troops to Hong Kong just in case Japan tried to invade. What they didn't know is that there were 50,000 Japanese soldiers that had been trained for 4 years that were 50 km away from Hong Kong. So Japan invaded Hong Kong and absolutely destroyed the allies even though they had fought bravely.
