    The Chinese military wanted across the bridge but Japan wouldnt let them over so they bombed it and this ws a beginning of a big war.

    On this day German warships and u-boats attacked polish naval forces in the Baltic Sea. Adolf Hitler claimed that this was a defensive action. This happened because they wanted major powers, and Hitler hoped that his invasion of Poland would likewise be tolerated. The effects of this event was that they declared war on Germany starting World War II.

    There was a large formation of moving that could ruin the enemys front lines. they were trying to disoorganize the enemys front lines so they could get through to their mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower. This caused short military campaighns and preserved human lives.

    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the Amarican naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. This killed over 2.000 American soldiers because it was on a naval base. This happened because Japan was trying to take over their import market which was the US. Many lives were lost that day and also the US declerated war.

    Japan wanted to sink the aircraft carriers that escaped destruction at Pearl Harbor, so they invaded a target close to pearl harbor hoping to draw out the American fleet. Japan carriers were caught refueling their planes and the Americans sank four fleet carriers.
  • Bataan Death March

    Approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make an arduous 65-mile march to prison camps.They had to do this in e=very high heats and also take bad treatment from Japanese guards. They were forced to march from Marivels to the southern part of the Baatan Peninsula. This happened because they wanted to get rid of the crippled by starvation and disease. Lieutenant General Homma Masaharu was tried and then later hung for these actions and was later executed.

    This was a succesful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingradin the USSR during WW2. This was one of the bloodiest battles in history, with combined military and civilian casualties of nearly 2 million. The Battle of Stalingrad happened because they wanted over the city. An efect of this war was it started a really big war and killed many people.

    This was a battle as a result from Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. This happened because allied forces were wearing down the Germany Army on all of the fronts and they were determined to take back their land from France. The allies defeated the Germans and the Normandy Landings have been named the begenning of the end of the war in Europe.

    Liberation of concentration camps
    Allied troops moved across Europe in a series of offensives against Nazi Germany and they were put in these concentration camps. MAny soldiers were facing disease and starvation. They would bomb the camps to get rid of prisoner quick to get rid of evidence. On the day of liberation, an underground prisoner resistance organization seized control of Buchenwald to prevent atrocities by the retreating camp guards. Diseases remained an ever present damger and survivors faced a long and hard recovery.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Iwo JIma was attacked by three marine divisions after elaborate preparatory air and naval bombardment (sixty-eight hundred tons of bombs, twenty-two thousand shells). This was a good place for bombers to land and take off when attacking Japan. The entire garrison was wiped out from this event and many lives were lost.

    This was the last but the biggest pacififc WW2 battles, this battle is known as the bloodiest war of the Pacific war. Japanese navy and army mounted mass air attacks by planes on one-way “suicide” missions. This war was all apart of Americas plan to win the war in the far east.

    On this day Great Britian and the United States celbrate victory in Europe Day. They hang up sighn banners and rejoice beause of the defeat of the Nazi war machine. Having this day makes people very happy and also especially because they defeated the Nazi war machine.

    An American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima this bomb immediatley killed 80.000 people and later more would die because of radiation exposure. Three days later a second B-29 was dropped killing an estimated 40,000 people. This was so Japan would surrender and they did. The effects of these bombs were that they killed many lives but they also got Japan to surrender because the US now had power.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    This was the day that ist was announced that Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the US. Since this day in history both August 14th and 15th have been celebrated and known as "Victoryover Japan Day." The term has also been used for when Japans formal surrender took place aboard the USS Missouri. several months after the surrender of Nazi Germany, Japan’s capitulation in the Pacific brought six years of hostilities to a final and highly anticipated close.
