The leader of germany was Adolf hitler, and the leader of the soviet union was Joseph Stalin. This battle was the climax to germany's plan of operation barbarossa. Germany's intention was to capture moscow, this doomed the third reich in the end. Their was 250,000- 400,000 german casualties, and 600,000-1,300,000 soviet casualties.
