  • Battle of Britain

    July 10th 1940- September 15th 1940
    The Germans started this battle under the control of Hermann Goering to gain control of the English Channel to start their invasion of Britain. At the start of the battle, Germany had 4,000 aircrafts and Britain had 1,660. The British clearly outweighed the Germans, leading to Germany’s loss in the battle. This lead to Hermann Goering’s downfall, leaving Adolf Hitler to take over the Air Force.

    The Battle of Midway is seen as one of the most decisive battles of World War II, taking place six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. During this battle Japan’s navy was destroyed along with four of America’s aircraft carriers. The Japanese aftermath of the Battle of Midway for was detrimental to their standing in the war. The Americans could replace the 'Yorktown', one of their damaged aircraft carriers. the Japanese found it hard to replace any carriers or men.
  • Battle of Guadalcanal

    The United States saw their victory at the Battle of Midway as an opportunity to reclaim their Pacific islands, starting with Guadalcanal. Upon the US’ arrival they found there was no one on the island, but later faced attacks back and forth. At the end of the battle the Japanese had lost two-thirds of their 31,400 army troops and the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army had lost less than 2,000 soldiers of about 60,000 deployed. The Japanese had no hope of beating the US.

    Germany saw invading Stalingrad as their first and most important step to taking over Russia. Hitler wanted to attack Stalingrad for the same reason Stalin wanted to defend it, it bore the name of Joseph Stalin. The German army consisted of 1,011,500 men and the Russian army consisted of 1,000,500 men. This was one of the most brutal battles of the war. To shame the loss Hitler had a national day of mourning and said, "The God of War has gone over to the other side."

    D-Day is known as the beginning of the end.General Dwight Eisenhower was the leader of the operation pitting all of the Allies(US, Britain, Canada, etc.)against Nazi Germany, who had power over most of Europe.The troops landed on the beaches of Normandy which resulted in the movement of 3 million men, moved by 6000 ships with aerial cover provided by 5000 fighter planes. D-Day was a success knocking down Nazi Germany and only leaving the Allies with major casualties at Juno and Omaha.
