The US declares war on Japan. This was because of the bombing at pearl harbour.The two days later Germany and Italy declared war on the US. -
British Royal Air Force Raid
The British Royal Air Force carried out a raid on Cologne with a thousand bombers. For the first time bringing the war home to Germany.For the next three years, Allied air forces bombed industrial plants and cities all over the Reich. -
Allies invade Sicily
British and US forces began to invade Sicily. The Allies landed in Sicily and by September they started going into the Italian mainland. The Allies took over Sicily by the end of August. -
Italy surrenders
Mussolini had been taken out of office and the new government of Italy surrendered to the British and USA. The Germans freed Mussolini and set him up as the head of the Government in Northern Italy. Doing this blocked any further allied advance through Italy. -
D-Day
It was a massive military operation where over 150,000 Allied troops landed in France. The Germans were given false information about were the Allies were coming from. But it was to late by the time they relzied the Allies formed a solid bridgehead.
