War Officially Declared
World War Two is declared after Germany invades Poland on September 1st. Germany had been growing it's military for some time before and finally invaded. This was the breaking point for the allies and they declared war on Germany. -
Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was fought in July of 1940. The Germans had an operation, "Operation Sea Lion" where their Luftwaffe would attack England. They bombed everything they could. If UK had not used radar they would have fallen to Germany. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Sunday morning of Decemeber 7th. The Japanese came in two waves bombing the harbor filled with military ships. 2,402 people were killed, 4 battleships sunk, and 2 destroyers sunk. The next day FDR declared war on Japan. -
Battle of Coral Sea
Japan moved to take over New Guinea. America did not want this because if they took New Guinea they could attack Australia from there. We fought for 2 days. The battle was a draw but Japan called off their attack on New Guinea. This shifted the momentum to the U.S. for the 1st time. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Hitler moved to attack Russia. He focused on the city of Stalingrad. He wanted to control the rich oil fields. He finally surrendured in December of 1943 because the troops were starving, sick, and freezing. This ended Hitler's chance of capturing Europe. -
D-Day
General Eisenhower was the supreme commander of this mission. The troops were to storm the beaches of Normady. The most fighting was done on the Omaha Beach. This caused Germany to fight a 2 front war. -
Battle of the Bulge

V-E Day
V-E Day is Victory in Europe Day. This is the day Germany surrendured to the Allied troops after the Battle of the Bulge. After this the battle turned to the war in the Pacific. -
1st Atomic Bomb Dropped
The United States dropped the first of two atomic bombs on the Japanese town of Hiroshima. It destroyed 90% of the city and 80,000 people died. The 2nd bomb was dropped on Nagasaki three days later. -
Japan Officially Surrenders
After having two atomic bombs dropped on cities in Japan They officially surrendered on September 2nd. This was a big deal because surrendering for Japan is not an honorable thing. This ended the war for America.
