    Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by the black hand while going to visit victims of a previous attack on them. Their driver happened to make a wrong turn right onto the street that their attackers were.
  • War has been declared

    War has been declared
    Exactly one week after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. This was the beginning of the war.

    Belgium was invaded by Germany because Germany needed to cross through Belgium in order to declare war on France. This caused France, Serbia, and Russia to ally with Britain.

    During this battle, Russia invaded Prussia and German Poland. They were stopped by Austrian and German forces in the process causing a German victory over Russia. It was one of the first major battles of WW1.

    This battle occurred after Italy joined the war with the allies. It was fought between Austria Hungary and Italy on the Italian Front. There were 12 total battles of the Isonzo.

    The battle of Verdun was between France and Germany. There were about 400,000 French casualties and about 350,000 German casualties. It was one of the longest battles of the war but it resulted in a victory for France.

    The battle of Jutland was fought between Germany and Britain. It was a naval battle. Germany attempted to break the blockade but failed. Britain secured control of shipping lanes.

    Germany sinks American passenger and merchant ships causing conflict. The Zimmerman telegram was also a main cause for causing US to go to war. It was an encoded message from a German minister to Mexico to try to get Mexico to join them in the war but he offered American territory.

    The Treaty of Versailles caused Germany to take full responsibility for the war. It also caused allied countries to get paid war reparations. The treaty caused Germany to surrender colonies and its military was reduced. It ultimately was the end of the war.
