    Trenches in ww1 was not a luxury life, the disease would flow and accommodations were not a concern. trenches were created because the battlefields were just open plots of land and trenches were good defensive strategies. How were trenches built? these were built by soldiers in the middle of a battle and it took a lot of manpower to build a small number of trenches. The soldiers were given shovels and expected to build a whole as there getting shot at.

    The reason for the assassination was a group of Serbian terrorist group. Their name was the ¨black hand ̈. The assassination was planned before the visit. This target was easy since the parade took a wrong turn easily bringing archduke to the hands of his killers. The ¨black hand ̈̈. The plan first happened when one of the assailants threw a bomb at the caravan. Archduke then insisted on visiting the injured in the hospital were on the way his life was taken away by 2 shots.

    on Christmas day there was a series of unofficial truce along the western front. the actual country did not agree to a cease-fire but the soldiers fighting in the trenches ceased fire for Christmas. Testimonies of soldiers said on Christmas morning germans came out the trenches saying Merry Christmas in there native tongue. they thought it was a trick but seeing them unarmed they united and sang carols, ate pudding, and even a game of soccer

    There were 3 chemical weapons used during ww1. These were Chlorine, Phosgene, and mustard gas. let's break down 2 of the and the effects of the weapons Phosgene: this gas smells like moldy hay and has no taste and after 2 days of ingestion the lungs will fill up with fluid and cause asphyxiation. Mustard gas was king of battle gas. the eyes will turn red and after you would get painful blisters. The use of Chemicals in battle was banned shortly after ww1 but wasn't highly enforced.

    on may 7th 1915 a german u boat brought down a luxury ship this killed 1128 people including 128 Americans This angered u.s because Germany broke the rules. the basics were no civilian casualties should happen. the ship was secretly modified for war to transport guns and supplies. the germans then found this out. so they declared the waters a war zone and stopped following prize laws that warned ships of submarine presence. then Germany brought the ship down thinking it was a threat.

    on September 6th, 1915 a prototype tank named ¨little willie¨came from England. this tank was by far no success overnight. tanks were started by the idea of Winston Churchill he wanted something that could smash through enemy lines. also, did you know the name ̈tank̈ was labeled to keep secret from enemies because these vehicles looked like water tanks? during shipment, the name ̈tank ̈ got stuck with the military and civilian community.

    The battle of Verdun was the longest battle during WW1 they were around 2 miles from the church and 1220 guns fire at the same time hoping for a 5 to 2 death ratio. at the end of the first week, the germans advanced 6 miles in. around 1.25 million people died in that battle and the bones of the victims in the war still surface to be added to the pile.

    The Zimmerman telegram was a note to Mexico. this note specified many things but was captured by British codebreakers. this mainly consisted of Germany promising to if Mexico helped in the war effort they will give back the states that were taken in the Mexican American warlike California, New Mexico, and Arizona.

    On may 18 1917 the selective service act was passed. This law made it so temporarily the president could up the military by selecting men for it. So what it means if there is an influx of soldiers the president have the power to bring in more soldiers. This is more commonly referred to as the draft. And legally within 30 days of your 18th birthday, you must register for the draft.

He said they traveled in Boxcars but only trekked 15 miles in 24 hours. after that, he describes the conditions he traveled in straw platforms and slow movement. after that, he talks about the major battle Americans helped fight with the British. he said that was ¨one of there first major victories¨.

    Aerial warfare during the first world war the scale of aerial warfare skyrocketed. the new technology that allowed machine guns to fire through propellers made fights even more deadly. The aviation battles made aerial deaths skyrocket. ground deaths were not largely affected by airplanes but the spread of propaganda by air was. Propaganda was spread through blimps and airplanes during wartime. this prompted the creation of many nations airforces knowing this will be the new wave of warfare.

I like this event because of this might of been his home for months or weeks on end. so when this picture was taken he will remember what life was like.

Another reason this hit me was either before or after a battle. I can imagine him being either happy or excited to win a battle or to go to one this image was taken in may 19 2019.

    in this paper, it states that sergeant bailey was honorably discharged on April 20th, 1920 for an unspecified reason. he joined at 22 years of age. and his height was 5´ 10¨ and a half when he left the service.
