In May 1915, a German U-boat torpedoed the British luxury steamship Lusitania, killing 1,195 people, including 128 Americans. On top of the human toll, this deeply angered the US. -
The Battle of Verdun
On Febuary 21st, 1916 the Germans launched an offensive attack on the French. It is one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the war. It lasted until December 7th of the same year. -
the Battle of the Somme
Known as the bloodiest battle of World War I. British allies attacked the Germans hundreds of miles away on the Somme. This battle was one of the deadliest, with 20,000 dead or missing and 40,000 wounded in the first hours of the battle. -
Zimmerman telegram
In early January of 1917, Germany sent a telegram to the goverment of Mexico in an attempt to make them join their side of the war incase the U.S were to join. In return they offered them the land that the U.S had taken from them. Mexico however did not agree, and stayed out of the war. -
Germany Breaks their promise
After failing to seize control of the sea from the British at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, Germany resumed unrestricted submarine warfare on February 01, 1917. This angered the United States, since they promised not to attack crusie ships anymore. -
The U.S joins the War
On Arpril 6th, 1917 the United States declares war on Germany. Thus offically entering the War. -
Russia Leaves the War
Russia signs the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with the Central Powers. This is where war ends for Russia, suffering many casualties. -

The Battle of Cantigny, fought May 28, 1918 was the first major American battle and offensive of World War I. -
The Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles, June 28th, 1919. After four years of devastating fighting, the First World War came to an end.
