Archduke Franz Ferdinand was heir to the throne of Austria Hungary. He was assassinated by members of the Black Hand. Some people say this was the spark that caused World War 1. -

Hungary declared war on Serbia in 1914 on the same day the Archuduke was assassinated. This caused a chain reacttion of European countries declaring war on each other. -

This battle was fought between Russia and Germany during the first month of WW1. The Russian Second army was almost completely anihilated in this battle. It ended 4 days later. -
First Battle of the Marne
This batttle was fought around the Marne river valley. The Entente won agasint the German armies in the West. This battle lasted 8 days. -
The Gallipoli Campaign
The Entante made this campaign in order to weaken the powers of the Ottoman empire. This took place in the Gallipoli penisula. The campaign ended on January 9, 1916. -
The Lusitania
A German submarine launched a torpedo on a British passenger ship called the Lusitania. The German's excuse was that the Lusitania was traveling in a war zone. Then, President Wilson of the United States, convinced Germany to stop firing on passenger ships. -
Attack of the Dead Man
The Germans launched a gas atatck on the Russians, causing them to retreat a little. When night fell, the Russians regained control and the Germans had to move back to where they began. -
Battle of Verdun
The Battle of Verdun took place on the Western front in France. It was one of the bloodiest battles and there were many causualities. The French had 400,00 causualties, while the Germans had close to 350,000. The Battle ended in December 18, 1916. -

The Battle of Jutland was the biggest naval battle of WW1. It was a battle thatt lasted one day and was between Germany and Great Britain. -
Battle of Somme
The Allies fought together to reduce the German forces as much as they could. The Germans had 650,000 casualites and the French and Birtish had a combined total of 615,000 casualities. It ended on November 11, 1916. -
Zimmerman Telegram
Germany sent a message to Mexico asking for their help. If the United States were to join the war, Germany wanted Mexico to help them. Germany promised Mexico their land back from the US. Mexico refused to join the war. -
United States Joins the War
President Wilson wasnted to end the fighting and the wars, but he didn't know how. He asked congress, and they told him to join the war. So, in 1917, America declared war on Germnay. -
Russia Withdraws from the War
On March 3rd, 1918, Russia signed a treaty with the central powers. They ended any participation in the war. This took place in a city called Brest-Litovsk. This sparked the Bolshevik Revolution. -
The Battle of Aimens
The Battle of Aimens was the beginning of many wins on the Western Front. The battle had a couple differnt names like Third Battle of Picardy or Hundred Days Offense/campaign. This battle lasted 4 days. -
Treaty of Versaille
The Treaty of Versaille was signed by Great Britain, France, Italy, and United States. Germany was not included because they were in the wrong in the war. The negotiations and conditions took away Germany's military. The treaty also changed countries boundaries.
