    Archduke Ferdinand was inspecting the Austro-Hungarian army with his wife Sophia. Both had already escaped death once but were shot by Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo was a member of the Black Hand, a Serbian nationalist group that wanted to liberate Slavic people in the Austrian-Empire. Sarajevo was the city Ferdinand and Sophia were killed in.

    Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
    After the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Austria-Hungary gave Serbia an ultimatum. The ultimatum demanded that Serbia formally and publicly condemn the "dangerous propaganda" against Austria-Hungary. Serbia rejected the ultimatum and Austria-Hungary declared war.

The unrestricted U-boat was going, the lusitania sinking, the zimmerman transcript, etc. America was on the fence staying neutral because many Americans were descendants to both sides. People didn't want to go into a war on another continent, it was so far away.

    Russia and Germany signed this treaty. Russia signed this peace treaty to stop participating in the war. Russia gave up Ukraine, Polish and Baltic territories, and Finland.
