Archduke Ferdinand assassination
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by Gavrilo Princp on June 28, 1914. Franz Ferdinand was planning on visiting Sarajevo in the month of June. The Black Hand decided to assassinate him because of his perceived threat made to Serbian independence. This set off a chain off events that led to ww1. -
Austria-Hungary declares war On serbia
On July 28, after a report of an unverified incident involving Hapsburg and Serbian troops, the Austria- Hungary government declares war on Serbia a month after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary felt it had no choice but to assert its dominance and sets out to punish Serbia. It was determined to take decisive action against Serbia and Austria-Hungary was prepared to risk war because they had Germans support. -
