Japanese Invasion of China,China was fighting Japan with the aid of Russia and the US because of other events caused by japan like Pearl Harbor.Japan wanted to spread its influence political and military in order to secure raw materials and food.Japan at this time was in a depression so they had no other choice but to try to get food and materials to survive.It ended with Japan surrendering on September 2,1945. -

Rape of Nanjing,Was an episode of mass murder and mass rape committed by Japanese troops on the people of Nanjing.The massacre lasted over a period of six weeks with Japanese troops looting and raping.The death toll was a kept secret and all evidence was burned after Japan's surrender.We estimate the death toll to be more than 300,000 dead based on Nanjing war crime Tribunal. -

Anschluss,Is the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany.Hitler felt strong enough to plan a union or anschluss with Austria.Hitler's idea was to unite all German speaking people in one country.It was forbidden by the treaty of Versailles so Hitler had to plan carefully. -

Munich Conference,Was a meeting between Britain,France and Italy to allow Germany to annex certain areas of Czechoslovakia.Hitler wanted the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia but Neville Chamberlain tried to talk him out of it.But Hitler wouldn't stop so Chamberlain decided to appease Hitler and let him have the Sudetenland.But Hitler broke this agreement by dismembering Czechoslovakia. -

Pearl Harbor,Was a naval base for the United States that was hit with a surprise attack from Japan just before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the base sinking 20 American naval vessels including 8 battle ships and over 300 airplanes.More than 2,400 Americans died including civilians and a thousand more wounded.After the event President Franklin D.Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan. -
War in Africa
Battle of El Alamein,This battle was first fought in Egypt which ended in a stalemate.While the second battle was in Africa and it marked the end of the axis in Africa.The marshal Erwin Rommel was defeated by the British 8th Army and he had no chance to rally his fleeing troops.The Axis lost 9,000 men with 15,000 wounded 30,000 captured the Allies lost 4,800 with 9,000 wounded. -

Kamikaze,Is a Japanese aircraft loaded with explosives and making the driver do a suicidal crash on an enemy target.Kamikazes were used in Pearl Harbor to take out the American naval base that controlled the area.Kamikazes were also used in the battle of midway to take out large American battleships with planes and soldiers.For many Japanese people being a Kamikaze pilot was a way to serve their emperor and their country. -

Hiroshima and Nagasaki,During the war an American b-29 bomber dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima which wiped out 90% of the city.80,000 were killed in an instant tens of thousands more would die to radiation exposure.3 days later another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing 40,000 people.After that the Japaneses emperor called for Japan's surrender.Even tho Japan had surrendered they still continued to fight but that would end quickly due to president Truman.
