    Italian Invasion of Ethiopia
    The Italians had been looking for an excuse to attack the Ethiopians and when a border dispute between Italian Somaliland and Ethiopia. So Italy attacked and destroyed the unprepared Ethiopian army. This attacked showed the ineffectiveness of the League of Nations. It also started to separate the ideals of the western democratic states from the fascists states. This started Italy's craving for conquering more land.
  • Rape of Nanjing

    Rape of Nanjing
    The Nanjing Massacre, or Rape of Nanjing, was an episode of mass murder and mass rape committed by Japanese troops against the residents of Nanjing. Historians still argue the overall death toll but its around 300,000. Many people around the world were furious about this incident but still wanted to remain neutral.

    The Italians invaded Egypt and Libya and Benito Mussolini asked Hitler for troops and he gave him a small fighting force. To Hitler the African War meant nothing compared to the war against the Soviet Union. So the British easily destroyed the Italian force. This really did nothing but distract everyone from the major goal Europe.

    Hitler wanted Russia very much so he ordered an all out assault from 3 different directions. But the Soviets got support from many small cities in Russia and defeated Germany. As Germany spread its army too thin.
  • Island Hopping

    Island hopping was a military strategy employed by the Allies in the Pacific War against Japan and the Axis powers during World War II. The idea was to bypass heavily fortified Japanese positions and instead concentrate the limited Allied resources on strategically important islands that were not well defended but capable of supporting the drive to the main islands of Japan. This allowed the US to quickly counquer the Pacific Ocean.

    The Japanese wanted to draw out the US navy but the US solved their codes and sent many ships to Midway Island. The US crushed the Japanese as they were unprepared for the defense the US had built up. This loss scared the Japenese as they were very unprepared for the US to fight back.
  • Kamikaze

    Kamikaze
    Kamikaze a part of the Japanese Special Attack Units of military aviators who initiated suicide attacks for the Empire of Japan against Allied naval vessels in the closing stages of the Pacific campaign of World War II. About 3,800 kamikaze pilots died during the war, and more than 7,000 naval personnel were killed by kamikaze attacks. This was a way of attacking that put fear in the American soldiers.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Code named Operation Neptune, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of German-occupied France (and later Europe) from Nazi control, and laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front. The amphibious landings were preceded by extensive aerial and naval bombardment and an airborne assault—the landing of 24,000 US, British, and Canadian airborne troops shortly after midnight.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    This battle was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes in eastern Belgium, towards the end of the war in Europe. The offensive was intended to stop Allied use of the Belgian port of Antwerp and to split the Allied lines, allowing the Germans to encircle and destroy four Allied armies.
  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    During the final stage of World War II, the US detonated two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945. The US dropped the bombs after obtaining the consent of the United Kingdom. The two bombings killed 129,000–226,000 people, most of whom were civilians. They remain the only use of nuclear weapons in the history of armed conflict. This action effectivly ended WW2.
