Russia and Germany Sign A Pact
A pact was signed by Stalin and Hitler. It contained secret directions for the separation of Poland. It was supposed to be a treaty for peace between the two countries. -
Hitler Invades Poland
Even while the pact was in the process of being certified, Hitler was planning his invasion. He signed the pact so they would not be prepared for his advance. This made them sure that they could not trust him. -

He was under too much pressure to bear, so he resigned. Churchill was the next wartime coalition goverment's top leader. Chamberlain supported this and it boosted the war effort. -

This pact was the start of an allied group. The group consisted of three major countries. They were Japan, Germany, and Italy. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. They were already at war aginst China. This was right before they took the British, French, and Dutch colonies located in South East Asia. -
U.S. Declares War
After the attack from Japan, The U.S. declared war on Japan. Britain who was supporting the U.S. also declared war on Japan. This was almost impossible to avoid. -
Battle of Midway
The U.S. defeated the Japanese. This was their first real defeat of the war. They pushed the Japanese back. -
Italy Surrenders
This was the end of the Italian support for the Germans. Italy surrendered itself to the British and U.S.A. They had agreed to join the Allies. -
Rome Liberated
The Allies freed Rome from Germany. This should have taken place earlier since Italy had surrendered in September. It took longer than expected because the Germans were still fighting. -
D-Day
This was when the Allies started their attack on Germany. General Eisenhower led the invadors to the beaches of Normandy. Capturing this port was an important start for the Allies.
