  • Winter War

    Winter War
    On November 30th, the Soviet Union invaded Finland. The Soviet Union wanted to push its border order to buttress the security of Leningrad. This resulted in Finland losing land and both sides losing men.
  • Germany BlitzKreig

    Germany BlitzKreig
    Meaning Lighting War, it was a German strategy focused on moving fast and concentrated. It required the concentration of offensive weapons along a narrow front. It was used to ensure that the war would go much faster than the first world war. These tactics were successfully used against many countries, including Poland, Denmark, France, and Greece.
  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    After 9 days of fighting both Germany and Italy, on June 14th, the French army evacuated Paris and the Germans took over. The French army could not fight anymore. Leading to Germany taking over the country.
  • Sinking of The Bismarck

    Sinking of The Bismarck
    On May 27th, 3 days after they sunk the Hood, the British Navy sank the Bismarck. They did this as revenge. This led to a very strong German ship being sunk.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    A surprise aerial attack by the Japanese on the American base on Oahu Island, Hawaii. This was done to weaken the American naval strength. But, this had the opposite effect as the attack was not very successful in their goal, this also brought America into the war.
  • Wannsee Conference

    Wannsee Conference
    On January 20th, 15 high ranking Nazi Party and German Government officials met in Berlin to discuss the “Jewish Problem”. This led to the “Final Solution” and the plan to eliminate the Jews. causing millions of Jews to be sent to their deaths.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    A three day long battle, starting on June 3th, between the American and the Japanese Navy. This gave the Americans a clear way to Japan. As well as causing the Japanese to lose a lot of resources.
  • Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

    Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
    After months of planning, on August 1st, the Polish Home Army initiated an uprising in Warsaw. This was done as an attempt to free the city. Though this was fruitless, as the Germany army was able to crush the resistance and take back control of the city.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    June 6th, the combined forces of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom landed on the beaches of Normandy in northern France. This was done so the Allies could get a foothold in France. By the 11th, the beaches of Normandy were fully secured.
  • Liberation of Concentration Camps

    Liberation of Concentration Camps
    As the Allies moved through Germany they encountered these camps as they went. These camps were taken over and the people set free. This allowed survivors of the camps to finally go home, this went on until Germany surrendered
  • Battle of The Bulge

    Battle of The Bulge
    Hitler’s last major offensive during the war. The aim was to split the Allies as they invaded Germany. The failure of the plan led to the victory of the Allies. It was also called "the greatest American battle of the war" by Winston Churchill
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    An attack Launched by the United States. They planned to take the islands of Iwo Jima. The success of the battle gave the United States control of the airfields on the islands, giving them a foothold in the pacific.
  • VE Day

    VE Day
    May 8th, the day German troops laid down their arms and Germany surrendered. After the death of Hitler, Germany had lost their leader and their will to fight. After this day all that was left was Japan.
  • Dropping of The Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of The Atomic Bombs
    Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had atomic bombs dropped on them. This was done because this was the fastest solution to the war in the eyes of the Allies. These bombs had a horrible outcome on Japan, leading to mutations, premature death of babies, and many more.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    The day Japan had surrendered to the Allies. After the dropping of the bombs, the Japanese government had no will to fight on. This led to the end of WW2.
