Japan Invades China
A preexisting military confilict involeing Chine and Japan. This was the largest asian was so far to be sean. This conflict made up more thatn 50% of the casualties in the Pacific Theater. War was because Japan wanted to dominate China economicly and with there military. Many conflicts befor over natrual recorces and the need for more workers. The Japanese ended up surrendering in september of 1945. -
Munich Conference
Meating that was about letting Germany anex Czechoslovakia. Consisted of many powers in Europe but not Czechoslovakia. This gave into demands by Hitler to stop a conflict. Czechoslovakia people where very mad because they where not represented in the confreance. This stop conflict for a wile but Hitler was very imbisiouse. World War 2 was unavoidable at this point. -
Blitzkrieg
This form on battle was put to use during World War 2. Germans preformed this on countrys when they invaded them. It was very effective and fast. It woulf involve ground troops, tanks, and large guns. Air support was also involved. They would attack first and bomb many buildings and defensives. So this was scary for all defending countrys that Germany would try and invade. -
Non-Aggression Pact
German and Soviots where the ones signing the treaty befor the start of WW2. This said that they would not take any military action torwads one another for 10 years. This gave the Soviots time to build up there military. Hitler just wanted to invade poland unopossed. This pact fell apart June 1941 when Nazi Germany invaded the vast country. -
Germany invades Poland
The intire invasion took 1 month and 5 days. Invasion stoped when Germany and Russia ended up anexxing all of Polend. They later divieded it up. Germany invaded Poland from the North, South, and West. This was to show off power and gain some land back that they had lost in the first world war. This set the stage for World War 2. -
Battle of Britain
Air attack waged by Germany. First major battle fought solely by air in World War 2. Germany wanted to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force. Germany useded alot of terror bombing Strategys. Critical turing point in ww2 when Germany failed to complete its objective. Britan never signed a armistice or surrended to the Axis powers. -
Leand-Lease Act
Helped suppy many countries with matirals after the start of World War 2. A total of 50.1 billion dollers in martias where shipped over seas. Wepons would be used untill there retuarn or destruction. This turned out to be a good idea. -
Operation Barbarossa
Code name for Germanys invasion of Russia in World War 2. Four million Axis troops invaded Russia over a 1,800 mile front. Hitler was the one in charge of the mission to inviade. This operation ended up failing. But lead to many more missions withch also failed. Operation blue and the battle of stalingrad where included in this. Operation Barbarossa was the largest mission in cludeding most deaths and most fighters. Hitler later regrated there decision. -
The Holocaust
These where camps where jews and enemys of the state where prosocuted. About 6 million jews where killed by the Nazis regieam. Largest genacide ever to be seen. The camps started after World War 2 and many people did not know about it. But there where also otheres that hated jew and wanted them all to be killed. Jew where killed because people thought that it was there fault that Germany had been in a depression. Camps where ended up closeing down when Allied forces got into Germany. -
Pearl Harbor
This was attack by the Japanese on a American base on our own soil. This attack is what ended up leading the U.S. into the second World War. America joined the Allied powers to fight the Axis powers in Europe and in the Pacific. Japan ended up regreting the attack when we started dominating them in the war. America ended up getting the Japanese to surrender. But that was after we droped two of the most deadly bombs know to man at the time, on them in there home land. -
Wannsee Conference
Meeting held in Berlin to talk about what to do with the jews in
Germany. Jews where deported and sent to poland to be killed. this was one thing that was a resualt of the meeting. The SS was in charge of the extermination of the jews. But befor they where forced to leave they when incouraged to. Many did because it was leagal to descriminate against jews. Wannsee house is now a Holocast memorial. -
Bataan Death March
Japan forces about 60,000 prisoners of war to march to there camp. This is referded to as a death march because around 3,000 soljiers died during it. American and Phillipean men where the victoms of this brutal walk. The 60 mile march involved alot of physical abuse, This brutal march ended up being called a wr crime against Japan. -
Battle of Midway
Six mothes after pearl harbor is when this attack took place. It involved U.S. and Japanese forces. Americans won and majorly hurt Japanese fleets. This attack was to eliminate the U.S. as a power in the Pacifc ocean. The attack failed and the united states prevailed. The major mistakes of the attack where made by the Japanese and bad assumptions. -
Battle of Stalingrad
large fight by Nazis and Allies to take the city of Stalingrad from the Russians. Know for not haveing any care about civilian or military casulties. Fought in very closs combat and even hand to hand fighting. Said to be the most important battle of the whole war. Germany lost alot of ground and never regained it. They even had to with draw from other battles to cover the losses. the German 6th army was forced to surrender near the end of this battle. This was a large victory for the Allies. -
D-Day
160,000 Allied troops landed on the beach of Normandy along a 50 mile streatch. This battle was to gain back land in france. They battled the Nazis in a hard battle and lost many men. Germans had the high ground and the beach was really hard to take. More than 9,000 Allied troops died but this bagan the mach of 100,000 more troops into Europe. This battle was won and lead the Allies to more victories in France againts the Axis powers. -
Battle of the Bulge
This battle was a German attack in Belgium. This suprise attack caught the Allied fources off gaurd. Battle of the Bulge was coind as a term because of the Allied front lines bulgeing in. 610,000 American troops where involved. German troops where heald off from the attack. More troops later came to help the Allies stoping the attacks. German plans failed to work. -
Battle of Iow Jima
Battle fought between America and Japanese forces. Battle over Iow Jima and its three air fields. This 5 week battle was some of the worst fighting in the War in the Pacific. This island was useless to the U.S.. The bases was heavaly fortified and defended. Americans ended up takeing over the island after heavy losses to the Japanese. -
Battle of Okinawa
Coded names Operation Iceburg this battle lasted 82 days long. U.S. attack to gain controle of importand island close to Japans main land. This was for many strategical reasons. 2 Marine divisions and 4 Army divisions where apart of the attack. This battle resalted in the most casualties in the pacific during the hole World War. Many cavilions actualy comited suicide during the invasion. This attack was a major Allied victory in the Pacific, -
V-E Day
V-E Day is stood for victory in europ day. This is the day that Nazi powers surrenderd. The sencond world war was oficially over. Italy had already surrenderd so the where not a part of this day. Great day for the Allies. This day will forever be rememberd in history world wide. -
The Bombing of Hiroshima/Nagasaki
During WW2 a American B-29 bomber droped the first ever atomic bomb in Japan. Hiroshima was the first city to be bombed and desinagrated. The bomb was created in American soil during th Manhatan Project. The bomb imeadeitly killed 80,000 people and wiped out 90% of the city. 3 Days later another atomic bomb was droped on Nagasaki killing 40,000 people instantly. These attacks ended up makeing Japan surrender in fear of another bombing. -
V-J Day
Stands for victory over Janpan day. This surrender is what eneded up ending the second World War. Pear Harbor is what started the war between America and Japan. But in the end American is the one who prevailed and defeated Japan forces. -
Warsaw Pact
Defense pact between 8 comunist countrys. This pact was a reaction to the intergration of West Germany into NATO in 1955. Spear headed by Russia to keep controle of military forces in Europe. Even inclueded East Germany, Hungray, and Poland. The pacted ended at the fall of the USSR and the end of the cold war.
