Britain and France declare war

Hitler invades France
When Hitler ivaded France it was also known as the Fall of France. It was the successful German invasion of France and the Low Countries defeating primarily French forces. German armoured units pushed through the Ardennes to cut off and surround the Allied units that had advanced into Belgium. -
Miracle at Dunkirk
The Miracle at Dunkirk was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk. This evacuation was done in the early morning. They did this because the British, French, and Belgian troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk. -
Battle of Brittain
The battle of Brittain started on July 10, 1940 and lasted until Otober 31, 1940. The Battle of Britain was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air forces. It was also the largest and most sustained aerial bombing campaign to that date. Coastal shipping convoys and shipping centres were the main targets. -

The raid on Dieppe was an Allied attack on the German-occupied port of Dieppe, France. the Germans had succesfully defended the port of Dieppe from the Allies. -
Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad was a major and decisive battle in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad. The battle started on August 23, 1942 and lasted until February 2, 1943. It is well known for constant close-quarters combat and lack of regard for military and civilian casualties. -
D-day
The miracle at Dunkirk helped D-day happen because the troops that had survived now knew the german defence tactics. The landings were conducted in two phases: an airborne assault landing of 24,000 British, American, Canadian and French airborne troops and an amphibious landing of Allied infantry and armoured divisions on the coast of France. -
End of World War Two in Europe
World War 2 in Europe ended with the unconditional surrender of Germany in May 1945. The German surrender was given to the Western Allies on May 8th and to Russia on May 9th. -
A-bomb dropped on Hiroshima
On Agust 6, 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city Hiroshima by the United States. The Unitede States was trying to make the Japanese surrender and end the war. Approximately 80,000 people were killed as a direct result of the blast, and another 35,000 were injured. At least another 60,000 died by the end of the year from the effects of the fallout. -
Atomic bomb is dropped on Nagasaki
On August 9, 1945 a second atom bomb is dropped on the Japanese city Nagasaki by the United States. This resulted in the Japanese surrendering. -
End of World War Two
The surrender of the Empire of Japan brought the hostilities of World War II to a close. By the end of July 1945, the Imperial Japanese Navy was incapable of conducting operations and an Allied invasion of Japan was imminent.
