Japanese commander launches a raid on Midway to widen its sphere of influence and conquest. It was a turning point of the pacific campaign. -

Allied forced crossed the english channel and landed on beaches of Normandy, France.
Hitler wanted to win war.
Forced Germans to fight a two front war again. It was the "beginning of the end" for the Germans/Hitler. -
Battle of the Bulge
Germans launch of the largest battle fought on the Western front. Attempt to push the allied front ine west from northern france to northwestern Belgium. It was Hitlers last major offense in the war and American forces were able to contain the battle and inflict heavier losses on the German forces. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
American soilders made their first strike on Japanese home islands at Iwo Jima. America needed a base near the Japanese coast. Japan airfields were shut down. -
VE day
German troops throughout Europe finally laid down their arms in the west to continue their battle with the russians in the east. The germans wnated a seperate peace with the allied troops. It was the end of WW2 in Europe. -
Battle of Okinawa
U.S Allied forces invaded Japan ro invades Japanese home islands. Japan surrendered. -
Potsdamn Decleration
Statement that called for the surrender of all Japan froces. War council said that Japan was no longer able to wage war. Japan responded with silence. -
Dropping of the atomic bomb
US dropped bomb on Japanese city; Hiroshima as an attempt to end the war.Ended with Allied victory. -
VJ day
Japan has surrendered unconditionally to the Allies because Japan was crippled by the bombs. This was the final ending of WW2
