The contact that Italy and Germany signed together to become partners. Because of the this Pact of Steel Germany and Italy was to support each other during war. They would be called the Axis. -

To save the defenses of Britain they had to evacuate France. They did that at a small port called Dunkirk. On the beach they held off German attacks while ships from England came to rescue them. 340,000 soldiers were rescued. -

A three year war in North Africa for the control of valuable resources and great strategy positions. Italy had wanted to expand their territory in Africa. -
France Surrenders
After the Evacuation at Dunkirk, Germany didn't leave France alone. France surrenders to Germany. Britain and the Commonwealth countres now fight alone. -

Germany started sending Britain long bombing raids.They were known as the "Blitz" and it killed many innocent people and destroyed buildings. -
Tripartite Pact
Is well known to be the Axis Alliance. The Tripartite Pact was Signed by Germany, Italy and Japan. -

Operation Barbarossa
This attack broke Hitler's alliance with the Soviet Union. Hitler only saw them as a source for natural resources and great labour for the German army. The Soviet Union kept pushing and fighting back the Germans until they surrendered. -
United States Enters
The United States finally stepped up and joined the war. They joined with the Allied forces making the Allies become stronger. -
Dieppe raid
Canadians, British and American troops raided the small port of Dieppe. The objective of this raid was to test their ability to land on beaches and to see if it was possible to capture a fort. Half of the troops were either killed or captured in this raid. -

Battle of Sicily
Allied forces invaded Sicily. It was part of the Italian Campaign. Canadians were part of this battle and they managed to take Sicily from the axis powers. -
Juno Beach
The first attack of D-Day. 14,000 canadians were sent, there were only about 1000 casualties. The operation was a success. -
D-Day
Attack launched by the allies that was a full invasion of Europe. The allies planned to invade 5 beaches. Germany was expecting an attack but underestimated the fact that the Allies would still carry out their attack on bad weather. -

The Allies and Axis fought to occupy the territory in Northern Belgium and some part of the Netherlands. The Canadians were supposed to clear the Scheildt River from the enemy's troops. -

Battle of Rhineland
The battle to drive the Germans out of the Netherlands by pushing them backover the Rhine River. More than 100,000 Canadians were brought over in the end more than 5000 Canadians died. The Battle ended when Germany withdrew the Rhine River.
