May 10, 1940 Germany uses guick strikes called blizkrieg, meaning lightning war, to take over the Netherlands and Belgium. Jun 10, 1940 Italy enters the war as a memeber of the Axis powers. Jun 22, 1941 Germany invades the Soviet Union Dec 7, 1941 The Japanese attack the United States Navy un Pearl Harbor. The next day the United States enter the war on the side of the Allies. Jun 4, 1942 The United States Navy defeats the Japanese Navy at the Battle of Midway. Sep 3, 1943 Italy surrenders to the Allies. Jun 6, 1944 Allied forces invade France at Normandy and push back the Germans, known as D-day.
