World War ll Timeline

  • Germany Invades Poland, The Battle that Started the War

When Germany invaded Poland's, they sent their bombers in first. The goal of the invasion was to regain territory that they lost in the first world war. This was also the first battle that Hitler used the Blitzkrieg strategy. This is when the army moves swiftly and efficiently. One of the only reasons that Hitler won this battle was that the polish army was not prepared for the war against the Nazis. This demonstrated how ruthless Hitler and his Nazi army was going to be throughout the war.

    World War ll Timeline

  • Battle of Britain, The Battle that Tested Britain. I chose this because it is considered one of the turning pints in the war against Hitler.

The German Luftwaffe is Germany's air force. The Luftwaffe bombed Britain day and night. The opposing force was the British Royal air force, who held their own against the overpowering Luftwaffe. But, the Germans did not have the technology in which Britain had. The British had the Radar which allowed them to see German planes. On the other hand, Germany had the more modern planes. In the end, Germany lost 1,700 planes and Britain only lost 1,000.
  • Germany invades Russia

Germany attacked Russia in June of 1941. Hitler sent his army into Russia from every direction. This battle showed the downfall in the Blitzkrieg technique. Hitler did not let his men surrender of retreat and many died during the Russian winter and fighting. 91,000 men surrendered to the USSR in 1943, but only 5,000 would ever return to Germany. I chose this because it shows how Hitler wanted to turn on Russia. Also, it shows how strong the Russian winter is and how it destroys armies.
  • The Bombing of Pearl Harbor. I chose this event because it was the event that pushed the U.S into World War ll.

Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. There were two ways that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The first way was how they bombed the boats, planes, and airways. The second way they attacked was when they flew by and destroyed everything left. The reasoning for this attack was to take away the United States influence throughout Asia. If this were to occur, Japan would be able to take over the rest of Eastern Asia.
  • Battle of Stalingrad. I chose this event because it was the main push towards the ending of Hitlers reign in Europe.

Stalingrad was the turning point of the war in Europe. This led to the demise of Hitlers plans to take over all of Europe. Soviet troops forced Nazi armies to retreat toward Germany. The USSR took advantage of Germany weakness at the end of the battle and killed many of their soldiers in cruel bloodshed. This allowed many countries to rise up and fight against Germany.
  • D-Day. This was the day that the U.S led the fight to push the Nazis put of France.

This battle surpassed all others as the largest amphibious attack in all of history. D-Day was the invasion of northern France. This force included mainly the U.S, Canada, and Britain. Many of the invasions came by the sea and the the invaders dealt with high seas and German coastal batteries which were nests of German solider waiting for them. The invasion would have been harder but the allies detracted Hitler inn another location before invading. In the end, the allies seduced in their plan.
  • Dachau Liberated. I chose this because it was the first concentration camp out of many that was saved by the U.S and led to the saving of millions of people.

After the U.S found out about the Holocaust they took action. The holocaust was the systematic killing of the Jewish community and POW. Dachau was the first concentration to be set up and was the first one to fall to Allie control. Just days before, the SS guards led the prisoners on a death march to another camp. But, the camps was won after an easy battler against the remaining guards.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide. This was one of the most important because hitler was nnever tried for his war crime and shows how much of a coward the man was for not standing up and facings his wrongs.

Adolf Hitler shot himself with a pistol in the head, thus killing himself. He did this in his self-sufficient bunker 55 ft below the ground. He did this after the Allies broke through the remaining weak Nazi army. While was sown there he micro manages the remaining Nazi army. But his reign came to an end after he surrendered himself by suicide.
  • Dropping the War Ending Bomb. I chose this because they were the two most influenctial bombs ever dropped in history and showed the lengths that the U.S will go to to defend its people.

The U.S was fed up with fighting with Japan and wanted to spare the lives of the men who would lead a foot invasion against them. This caused them to drop the first atomic bomb in history on Hiroshima, a city in Japan. After the bomb was dropped, the USSR led a foot invasion on Japan. A few days later, the U.S finished off Japan with a second bomb that hit Nagasaki. This pounded Japan into submission and caused them to leave the war and let the U.S fight Hitler.
  • The War Ends. I chose this because this was the day that the war ended and the Allies succeeded in defeating Hitler, but how they dont know that another war is secretly starting.

This was the day that the documents were signed with japan that stated their surrender. September 2, 1945 is the official ending to the 6 year bloody war against the worlds greatest powers. The war caused 60 million deaths in total being one of the high casualty wars in all of history. This marks the end of one of the world decade but is the beginning of an battle.
