Defeat at Stalingrad
The battle at Stalingrad bled the German army dry in Russia and after this defeat, the Germany Army was in full retreat. Stalingrad was also an important target as it was Russia’s centre of communications in the south as well as being a centre for manufacturing. -
Normandy invasion
Hundred of ships arrived on the beach, ready for attack. Three divisions of paratroopers had already been dropped inland. Following a brief bombardment by ships' guns, Soldiers of six divisions stormed ashore in five main landing areas. -
Atomic Bomb
The atomic Bomb ended World War ll. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people. Ten thousand more died later, from radiation exposure. The Atomic Bomb wiped out 90% of the city.
