    Germany launched an offensive on Stalingrad and were gaining ground but when the harsh Russian winter set in that the Germans were not accustomed to they start losing ground and eventually surrendered 91,000 troops to the Russians. This shows that there is a distinct advantage of fighting on your own soil since your soldiers are already accustomed to the climate and the resources/equipment at hand.

    Operation Torch was the allied invasion of the Northern part of Africa and pushed back enemy forces. Operation Torch was the first time Americans and the British had worked together on an invasion plan. The battle also forced the Afrika Korps to surrender.

This prevented them from transportation resources back to their home islands.
