    The Japanese claimed that they were fired on by Chinese troops.The Japanese occupied large areas of Eastern China in1937-38.Japanese forces were diverted to Southeast Asia and to the Pacific theatre of WW11 against the western powers and their allies beginning in late 1941.Japans defeat by the Allies in September 9, 1945 ended its occupation of China.

    It was named after the former soviet foreign minister vyacheslar molotor and the german foreign minister joachim von ribbentrop. It was a non agression pact signed on this date. The pacts publict stated intentions were a guarantee of non belligerence by each party towards the other and a commitment that neither party would ally itself to or aid an enemy of the other party. Germany invaded poland on sept. 1st, 1939. Stalin ordered his own invasion of poland on september 17.

    Just before 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941 hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American Naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The barrage lasted for 2 hours, but it was devastating: The Japs managed to destory nearly 20 American Naval vessels, including 8 enormous battleships, and almost 200 airplanes. More than 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died. 1,000 Americans were wounded. The day after, President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan.

    Allied Invasion of Italy
    Mussolini envisioned building Fascist Italy into a new Roman Empire but opposite groups in Italy were uniting to overthrow Mussolini and make peace with the allies but a strong German military presence in Italy threatened to resist action. The new government promptly entered into secret negotiations with the allies, despite numerous German troops in Italy. On April 28 Mussolini was captured by Italian partisans and executed. Germans forces in Italy & all of Germany surrendered on May 1st.
