-Adolf Hitler and longtime mistress/wife Eva Braun both commit suicide (gunshot and cyanide).
-Both of their bodies were burned. -
V-E Day
-The Allies and General Eisenhower accept the surrender of the Germans.
-This put an end to the first part of the war.
-There was large scale celebration overseas in places such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York City. -
Battle of Okinawa
-This was Japan's last push to defend their territory. They used 1,900 Kamikaze attacks.
-110,000 Japanese were lost while their were 7,600 to 12,500 American casualities.

Potsdam Conference
-Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, Churchill's successor, Clement Atlee, and Joseph Stalin all went to Potsdam in Germany to discuss ways of ending the Nazi reign.
-They divided Germany up into four sections, all controlled by other countries.
-This led to the Nuremberg Trials and forced Japan to surrender.
-They came up with an idea on how to take down Germany and end the reign of the Nazis. -
Manhattan Project / Hiroshima
- The town of Hiroshima was destroyed by an atomic bomb desiged to destroy a whole town. -"Little Boy" annihilated the city in about 43 seconds.

Manhattan Project / Nagasaki
-The second part of the US' plan was to bomb another Japanese city, Nagasaki.
-Their second atomic bomb, "Fat Man" destroyed half of the city. -
V-J Day part 1
-Just days after being hit by two atomic bombs, Japan accepts their fate and offers an uncoditional surrender. -
Occupation of Japan
-7 out of the 28 leaders were sentenced to death.
-Japan was under the occupancy of the US for six years by General Douglas MacArthur.
-They introduced a new constitution that called for free elections and women suffrage and introduced a free market economy. -
